Mimi Takes Five - #359

ONE // Maple Leaf Sweater
I love a good graphic knit sweater; the more seasonal, the better! While I've got Christmas, Fall and Valentine's covered, I had yet to get myself a Canadian sweater. I knew I'd found THE sweater when I saw this classic white knit with red maple leaf design! It's perfect in its simplicity. The most recognizable Canadian symbol is the maple leaf, so this sweater is the one for me. I also love the more boxy fit and think it'll be heavy in the rotation around Canada Day. That being said, it will pair so well with all of my little red dresses for some thematic dressing. Simply put, it's a perfectly patriotic option. Bring on the red and white outfits!

TWO // Summer Bows
Speaking of red and white, my latest Grace & Grandeur bow order arrived! I was not kidding when I said I loved this collection. Narrowing down my selection was a real challenge... That being said, I stuck with the classic summer prints and colours. A red gingham was a must, the navy gingham is a classic and I'm a sucker for seersucker so needed that one too. The final red fabric bow will fill a void I've found in my rotation. I have a bright red velvet bow, but find the velvet to work less well with summer looks. The fabric option is sure to get some love this season. I'm over the moon with these bows, they are perfection in person!

THREE // Red Leaf Tank
Ever purchase things on a whim? It doesn't happen to me often, but every now and then I find something and decide to get it in a split second. That's what happened with this maple leaf print workout tank. We were looking at patio furniture at Superstore and this tank top caught my eye when we walked by the Joe Fresh section. I don't have a red workout tank and this subtle allover maple leaf print looked cute. I figured it would be a good addition to my workout clothes rotation and a perfect patriotic summer option. I could also get away with wearing it casually and not for sport. I mean, just add white denim shorts and you're good to go for Canada Day BBQ look. It was only $12 so was an instant add-to-cart!

FOUR // Gilded Age - Season 3
I'm so, so happy that The Gilded Age is back on our screens for a third season! This show is the perfect thing to watch if you loved Downton Abbey. It's the same vibes, but in a different and earlier context - the Gilded Age in New York. It helps that it's also by creator and writer Julian Fellows. I watched the  first episode and it was everything I've come to love about this show. We picked up a few months after the end of season 2, but without skipping a beat. We've got the shift of the power dynamic in the van Rhijn household, the mother-daughter power struggle in the Russel household, the blurring of the lines between the various household staffs and family members and the usual society drama. It was a jam-packed episode and this season is setting up to be a very hectic one. While I enjoy this show on its own, I do love listening to the accompanying podcast because it deep dives into the historical context of the time and goes more in depth about the real-life characters that appear on the show. The main cast is all fictional (even though roughly based on historical figures), but they are surrounded by real people of the era. I love historical dramas, but usually find it hard to distinguish fact from fiction. Luckily, the Gilded Age podcast really helps shed light and make that task a lot easier. I can't wait for episode 2 on Sunday!

FIVE // Ricki's is saved!
I was so bummed in the new year when Ricki's/Cleo announced they were closing all of their stores. It was a sad moment as yet another beloved Canadian retailer was shuttering its doors. I shop regularly at Ricki's (sometimes Cleo) and loved their basic pieces and whimsical options. Especially with the tariff talks, it felt like a double blow to be losing a great local retailer option. Well, last week it was announced hat the stores had been purchased by an investment firm and would now be operating under new ownership, but will remain 100% Canadian owned and operated! I'm thrilled that this retailer has been given a second chance. Let's hope it doesn't end up going the same way as The Bay...
