Mimi Takes Five - #353

ONE // Cheddar- Jalapeño Bread
I came across this recipe on Instagram and decided to give it a go! While my sourdough journey has had its ups and downs, I'm not ready for inclusions yet because I'm not confident that my breads will turn out regularly. That's why this recipe caught my attention, it's a regular bread recipe with yeast but applies the usual sourdough techniques of stretch and folds, and shaping. Basically, it's the best of both worlds! I floated around the idea of trying this bread to my husband and he was all for it. So we went to the store for some old cheddar cheese and jalapeños. I made the bread and it turned out beautifully! I felt confident with the technique and using the Dutch oven for baking it also worked wonders. The bread rose and baked perfectly! It smelled and tasted amazing too! I was so pleased with the result although I'd half the amount of jalapeños next time because she was spicy! We like spicy foods and both found the bread to pack a bit too much of a punch. I'll be keeping this recipe and swapping out the inclusions or going without for a basic loaf. I'm happy I found a good bread recipe that's an alternative to making sourdough.

TWO // Navy Belt
I'd had a skinny navy belt for years and I wore it often. However, it started disintegrating last summer so since then I've been on the hunt for a new one. Surprisingly, a nice navy belt is harder to find than I thought it would. I was so happy when I found this one at Simons the other day. I love the gold buckle and the fact it's in the adjustable style I love so much! It's not too thick and is the perfect shade of navy - not too dark or too bright. It always feels great to find the perfect thing when you are looking to replace an item. I find I tend to shop this way now. Since my wardrobe is pretty complete, I find myself looking for replacements of much-loved pieces that can't be recuperated. I'm always fixing things too, but sometimes there's just nothing to be done. That was the case for this belt. The best thing about this approach is that you know it's a piece you'll wear because you've proven that through the fact you used it up until the very end. This also means it would be a great item to maybe invest a bit more in, as you know your cost-per-wear will pan out.

THREE // Outlander - Book 10
We have a title for the final book of the Outlander series! This week, the author has announced the title of the tenth book in the Outlander series: A Blessing for a Warrior Going Out. While a title is really exciting news, that's the only news. The book has not yet been fully written and there is no publication date as of yet... However, the author does reassure us that the blessing referred to in the title is not a death blessing (and tells us it does not mean Jamie is going to die). Now I'm not sure whether Jamie will die in this final novel or if the title is simply not referring to that. The author is keeping things ambiguous. I'm really hoping we get the book sooner rather than later, I'm really anxious to find out how this never-ending tale will conclude!

FOUR // Warm-Weather Trim
It was time to take the dog to the groomers for a trim. We get her trimmed and cleaned regularly because she gets so matted if we let her fur get too long. I love her when she's all fluffy because it makes her extra cute and cuddly. However, she gets uncomfortable when her fur gets matted and tugs. Besides, with the warm weather we've been having, I'm sure she feels lighter and most importantly - cooler! She's also easier to clean and dry with shorter fur, which is a good thing this time of year. She's tiny and close to the ground so she picks up everything and can get very dirty. So, regular washes are necessary. We give her those at home between grooms, so shorter fur also makes our job easier!

FIVE // Asterix & Obelix - the Big Fight
I grew up in a household filled with comic books because my dad was a huge fan. One of those series was Asterix & Obelix (in French). We would devour these comic books and every cartoon and live-action movie ever made about the indomitable Gaulish village! I was therefore thrilled to see that Netflix had released a five-episode mini-series on the book Asterix and the Big Fight. It's quite well made and totally captures the feel of the original comic strips. I loved that I got to watch it in French (the language of creation) because it's so nostalgic to me! Truth be told, I'll probably watch it over and over because there are so many subtle little jokes that I'm sure I missed the first time around. The show also happens to be a hot topic in the family chat and it just warms my heart that we can still banter like the good old days. My brother found a four-leaf clover the other day and we all got the reference right away, ha ha!
