Life is a Highway

This summer feels like one endless road trip. Every weekend seems to be a mini trip, and they all seem to tie into one another. Here we on the road again, headed from one big city to the next, during a long weekend no less. That means there is going to be a lot of traffic and the trip might be longer than usual. This is why I like to pack healthy snacks and wear comfortable clothing because it's better to be prepared. That's why today's look is comprised of comfy skinny jeans and a loose tank. I forwent makeup and just decided on wearing big sunglasses instead. No fuss, no muss!

Red Reptile

You can never go wrong with a red pencil skirt. It's classic, conservative, feminine, bold and fun! I mean, nothing makes me feel like more of a woman than wearing a pencil skirt with pumps. I bet the feeling would be akin to that which men get when wearing a suit and tie. I gave my skirt a slight boho look today by pairing with a crochet top and taupe suede belt. The result is a bit laid back, yet still totally work appropriate. I could not resist wearing my snakeskin pumps to finish off the look. A bit of class, a touch of wild and a dash of sweet create one knockout look!

Go-to Blue

This dress has become a go-to for me. I see it time and again at Dynamite and finally understand why it keeps coming back every season (in different colours, of course)! Its simple construction and universally flattering shape make it the most versatile dress ever. I seems to naturally gravitate towards this dress! I just might keep an eye out to snag one in a different colour... Today's look is all about mixing shades of blue and yellow. I started with the dress, then added the fan necklace and the rest of the outfit built itself! In came the yellow shoes and turquoise belt. I like that the accessories give this basic blue dress a bit more pep!

TBT - Peachey Keen

I personally think the colour peach looks best on sun-kissed skin. I know that in my case, it washes me out... Today's look is a throw-back to an easy top and shorts combination. Nothing super special going on here. I would say it's a very basic colour-blocked look. Peach on top and black on the bottom. Simple enough. The lace layer on the top gives it dimension and interest while the jewelry adds the perfect finishing touches. The basic straight-cut of the Bermuda shorts is a perfect match for the peplum. Neither competes with the other. Sometimes, it's too hot to think in the summer and all you want is to put together a simple outfit without too much fuss. I suggest pre-planning a couple outfit options with Bermudas for those days you couldn't be bothered to think.

Colourful Reflection

Mirror, mirror on the closet door, which dress is the fairest of the all? I simply adore the mirror print of this uncomplicated shift dress. It is bold, colourful and, best of all, symmetrical! I'm big on order and organization and like for things to be just right. This dress sure fits the bill! I also like the easy-styling factor it brings to the table. With such an elaborate print, it makes it a cinch to style. You only need a good pair of shoes and some earrings. Now that is as low maintenance as it gets. If that's your style, I suggest you invest in a couple mirror-print dresses!

Lady in White

I love wearing all white outfits, they're so clean and fresh! The only downside is trying not to get anything dirty... I'm usually pretty good at this, but sometimes you spill a bit of smoothie on yourself. I carry a Tide-to-do stick in my purse for this specific situation. Luckily, I managed to stay clean all day today! This stretch jersey dress is comfortable and breathable, a perfect match for summer. I also love that is has pockets! You never realize how useful pockets can be until you don't have any. I decided on wearing a white metal-bar waist belt to subtly add definition. I then finished off the look with glitzy chandelier earrings for a touch of glam and white d'Orsay flats, to change it up from heels.

Orange Flutter and Blue Crop

I like pairing baby blue with bright orange. I don't know why, but this colour combo has always caught my eye. To me, it's a little bit like pairing fire and ice, naughty and nice. Life is all about balance and it's ok to mix a little bit of bold with a little subtlety. My shirt is like "Bam!" in your face, while the pants are like "Oh, hello. I hope I'm not interrupting." Forceful vs. polite. They balance each other out perfectly! I finished the look with simple gold jewelry and nude wedges. The outfit was loud enough as it is without piling on the statement jewelry!

Après Sea

Because our weekend wasn't busy enough, we had a birthday party to go to following our naval adventure. It was a family thing, as another cousin was having a milestone birthday! We were headed there straight from the boat, so a quick change of outfit was required. Boy am I glad I chose an off-the-shoulder top as the heat was killer! I decided on shorts and flip-flops to keep it simple and functional. It turned out to be a fabulous party filled with outdoor activities, family stories and great food! This is exactly my kind of party!

Sea Breeze

I got a major boat upgrade this weekend! Lucky for me, a cousin invited us to spend a night on his yacht. Of course we accepted the invitation with glee! The weather was uncooperative on the Friday evening, so we stayed in and played a board game. Saturday proved to be great weather wise, so we took the vessel out for a cruise. It was very windy, as I think you can tell by the pictures! Regardless of the breeze, it was warm and sunny. Perfect for a dip! I had worn my striped navy shirtdress, because I could knot pass up the opportunity of wearing something nautical on a boat... Big sunnies and an even bigger hat were the perfect finishing touches!

P.S. I was so excited that I forgot to take a swimsuit picture, so I added a previous picture wearing the same swimsuit.

Ace of Lace

This lace dress is simple, yet trendy and classic all at once. The ivory lace is timeless, the fit and flare shape is flattering and the neckline is both interesting and modest. These elements all contribute to making this dress the perfect summer pick for almost any occasion. It makes me feel instantly put together and provides a blank canvas on which I can create a multitude of outfits. This dress really is a staple and gets an A in my book! For today, I was inspired by a piñata. My colour inspirations came directly from the beach bag. The peach belt, yellow earrings and purple shoes all tie into the palette of the bag. Seeing as it's summer, and I'd rather go to the beach than to work, I figured carrying around a beach tote would soften the blow!
