Casual Sparkle

Even if you are staying at home for a low-key New Year's Eve, it dosen't mean your outfit has to be boring. Today's look is a perfect example on how to add shimmer and shine in a cozy, effortless way. I picked a pink colour palette and started with some burgundy leggings. I added a blush metallic t-shirt and a boyfriend cardigan with sequin accents. Throw on a big pair of cable-knit socks and you are good to go for an evening of watching the Times Square Ball drop from the comfort of your own couch! Don't forget the bubbly!

Jacquard, d'accord!

Today's look is a little mix of everything. Layering, prints, textures, colours; you name it, this look has it! I love the subtle festive feeling of these pants, the tone-on-tone jacquard adds a certain richness to the fabric. I then opted to wear a red plaid shirt, figuring the pants would make the blue in the shirt stand out. I topped it off with a white ruffle knit sweater. To stick with the glamorous vibe, I added a navy faux-fur stole and patent navy pumps to the mix. These shoes are heavenly! It hard to find a nice, classic navy pump and these Badgley Mischka's have the cutest hint of bling on the heel! The heel is only three inches instead of my go-to four inches so that makes them a great everyday shoe. Seeing as they are patent, and have some bling, they are also a perfect formal shoe. I love finding versatile pieces and these babies were on the clearance rack at Nordstrom! It was meant to be!

TBT - NYE Bash

NYE is a perfect time to dress up and wear something completely glittery and over the top! This outfit is actually a very tame NYE look. I wore a simple A-line LBD with suede grey accessories and a touch of silver glam in the jewelry and clutch. Big hair and simple makeup fit the bill for this tamer party look. I had actually attended a big New Year's bash in a posh hotel that year. The party turned out to be a bit of a flop, but we went with another couple and had a blast on the dance floor! This dress allowed me to move freely and the shoes were comfortable enough to dance the night away in (thanks for making great shoes Vince Camuto!) What do you have planned for NYE? I'm actually going to volunteer this year, trying something new! Stay posted to hear all about it!

Sleigh What?

December is almost over, so that means my "wear-red-everyday streak is about to end... I hope I haven't turned anybody off of this gorgeous shade. You can never have too much of a good thing, right? That's how the saying goes? I decided to wear my red cable-knit sweater, for the umpteenth time. I paired it with my grey tartan wool mini skit and black tights. I couldn't resist wearing my black OTK boots, even if they are not winter-weather appropriate. Let me tell you, the salt does a number on these puppies! I just had to wear them today because they complete the look so well! This is a more sweet meets sassy look and... I slayed it! ;)

Très Festif

Graphic sweaters are right up there with graphic tees in my book! The best part about the sweater is that you can layer it and still let the message take center stage. In today's look, I wore my go-to buffalo plaid shirt. I love this shirt, or any plaid shirt for that matter, because they are the perfect layering shirts. I love the effect of a peek-a-boo plaid print from underneath a sweater. It gives the look that hint of fun and contrast. I opted for white skinnies and red shoes to glam things up a bit. The sweater says "très chic" after all. One must represent!

Black Blanket

Blanket scarves are so versatile. On really cold days, I like to wear it draped over a basic tee and cinched in at the waist with a belt. It's basically a chic way to wear a blanket to work! Who knew a simple piece of fabric could be so stylish? I could simply drape it over my shoulders, but I like how the belt keeps it in place all day long. No need to always adjust the slipping scarf. It does tend to have a bulky look, so to balance things out, I try to stick with a more form-fitting bottom. The OTK boots also help elongate the legs. I just can't get enough of these boots! They are definitely my most worthwhile purchase this past season. How else would you style your blanket scarves?

Crimson Sparkle

Merry Christmas every one!

I hope you are all enjoying the day surrounded by family and friends. This year is a more low-key Christmas. It's odd not being home (literally). I didn't do my usual decorating or card-making. I'm still making the most of the Holiday and am focusing on what's truly important. True, the decorations, food and gifts all contribute to the jolliness, but Christmas is all about family. I am grateful more than ever for them, because they are what makes it feel like Christmas, nothing else cuts it. I am already looking forward to next Christmas, when we will be able to host our loved ones in our new home. By that time, it will feel like home again. After all, home is where the heart is!

Now, on to the look! I wore my sequin mini skirt with a layered buffalo plaid shirt and red sweater. I know these pieces have been features a lot in December, but I wanted to make the most of my red clothing! This look sort of encapsulated the basics of my December dressing. A lot of red, black, shine and textures! I had added hints of white and pale grey to some of the looks, just to break it up a bit. I didn't over complicate things, and with a few keys pieces, I was able to create a capsule wardrobe for the month. It took a bit of planning initially, but boy was I happy I had plenty of outfit ideas to choose from during the busy Holiday season! Today's outfit would be perfect for Christmas day. It has red, some bling, a cozy factor and it's comfortable enough to sit around the fireplace drinking hot chocolate! It strikes the perfect balance of holiday-cheer and functionality! What would be your ideal Christmas day look?

Party Purrfect

I am going all out today! I wore this outfit to my work Christmas party. I knew I was going to wear something red, but I decided to wear one stand-out red piece with contrasting black in many textures. I opted for a matt sequin camisole, a strappy lace bralette, liquid leggings and my trusty OTK boots. I added hints of red on the nails, lips and earrings. As I was doing my make-up, my man pointed out that my outfit had major Catwoman vibes... You know what? He's right! Although that was the furthest inspiration, it turns out this look is very much in line with the feline villain. From the form-fitted, leather-like bottoms to the dramatic thigh-high boots, the monochromatic black and the bold cat-eye, even I can't deny the similarities. Other than the pops of red, this is Selina Kyle through and through... I played up the edge factor with the hair and makeup and ended up with one fiercely festive look!

Festive Fair Isle

Some days just call for comfy-coziness. I knew I'd have a busy day and would attempt some last minute Christmas shopping so I needed to wear something functional, all while remaining in the spirit of the season. Red was a given, but then I reached for my black Fair Isle knit and a lace blouse. I like wearing layers during the cooler months. It's a great way to stay warm for one, but is also great from a style perspective. I get creative with my layering and feel it adds dimension to my looks, all while maximizing the versatility of certain pieces. That's how you get more mileage out of some basic garments. My outfit served its purpose and I got my shopping done!

TBT - Christmas Colour Block

A look from Christmas past... I had layered my sleeveless  colour-blocked peplum over a long-sleeved t-shirt. The like having very simple basics a times because they make great layering pieces. They are more practical than fashionable but sure get a lot of wear! I didn't want to take away from the colour-block effect by covering my arms with a sweater or blazer. The t-shirt underneath the top was the perfect solution. Better yet, it look like it's part of the top! I threw my red cords into the mix and created a jolly outfit! What's great about this look, is that I can easily wear it again by switching out the bottoms. I could wear a grey wool pencil skirt or even some good old distressed jeans. The choice is yours! Holiday dressing can be as simple as taking your go-to outfit and switching out a piece for one in a festive colour. No muss, no fuss!

Red Flare

I like all skirt shapes, but I do have a soft spot for the midi. I only discovered it a few years ago, and fell in love with it! It truly is a flattering cut for my body shape and it kind of looks like a Christmas tree... Haha! Yeah, I get bizarre flashes of inspiration at times. I can't help it, it's how my brain works! I naturally reached for me red cable-knit sweater. Tired of seeing it yet? It just goes to show that you can wear the same piece multiple times without wearing it the same way twice! If you hadn't noticed the frequency with which I wear it, then it means I did a good job in styling it! I finished my look with floral tights and a gold waist belt. The tights make me think of holly and the gold adds a touch of bling. A little bling goes a long way!

Tartan Touch

A simple, yet very festive look today. I kept it easy-peasy by pairing my icey grey cable-knit sweater with my coated black jeans. The sheen from the jeans give them that slightly more cheery feel and picks up on the colour of the sweater. I then added a red plaid scarf to jazz thing up a big. Here's the kicker, I tied it in a great big bow! You can get any merrier than that! I mean, I feel like a big present! It's a subtle enough hint, but sure goes a long way. I like wearing accessories in unexpected ways, they are so versatile! When Christmas is over, I can wear this scarf again and again just by tying it up differently. The possibilities are endless! I like how this finishing touch just makes the look! To me, this is the perfect example of style vs. fashion. The scarf in itself is fashionable, but it's how I decided to wear it that makes it stylish. Have you ever tied your scarf in a bow?

What's Black, White and Red?

December weekends can quickly become busy ones... This was the case last weekend. I had planned on getting a few things done around the house, but we ended up running a few errands instead. I stuck with my red wearing theme and mashed up a few prints! Two of my favourites are featured: Buffalo plaid and Breton stripes! I added my coated black skinnies and finished off with my foxy slippers! They matched so well, I had to include them in my picture. Rest assured, I left the furry critters at home and wore more appropriate footwear to trek through the snow-covered parking lots...

The Bottom Line

I was bound to add some black and white stripes to my festive looks at some point... In comes the trusty pencil skirt! I can't help but think of candy canes when I pair red with black and white stripes, the image is so vivid! Since a cotton skirt paired with a cable-knit sweater can have a slightly more casual vibe than I the one I was going for, I simply added sheer black tights and a lot of bling to make the look worthy of this festive season. Sometimes, it's all in the finishing touches!
