Boho Maxi

My style is not full-on boho, but every now and then my outfits have a slight boho feel to them. Today I wore my favourite cut-out maxi dress. Seeing as mega cutouts are not appropriate for work, I topped the dress with a beige lace t-shirt that I knotted at the waist. The shirt is long and just looked frumpy layered over the dress. By knotting it, I emphasized my figure and gave the outfit better proportions. Get more wear out of your summer dresses by layering them for the cooler temperatures. Today, I fooled a few people in thinking I was wearing a skirt! Little did they know, I was simply being creative with a dress. I love when a garment can serve dual purposes!

Kid Mash Up

Patterned pants! These ones remind of ink blots on parchment paper. This is exactly what the result would be if I tried to write a letter with ink and a quill, one big blotchy mess! One person's mess can be another's masterpiece! I embraced the ink blot pants and paired them with layers of purple and accents of orange and chartreuse. No idea where this combination came from, I was just feeling it. Sometimes it's fun to just wear as many colours as possible. Bonus if they end up working together! I feel like they do just that in this outfit. This is the perfect example of an outfit a child would style! Bright colours and bold patterns all at once! My inner child is beaming with pride right now!

Teal Animal

Leopard print is a great print to wear all year round, but I feel it's particularly fitting during fall. There is something about the brown and earthiness of the print that makes me gravitate to it when the leaves start to change. I paired it with a deep teal to keep the entire look warm and crisp, kind of like the fall breeze. I added a wooden statement necklace and camel patent pumps to tie everything together. The asymmetrical shawl is a perfect transition piece, as it can be worn loose or draped around your shoulders should a slight chill be in the air. In-between season dressing can be challenging at times. Try using pieces in different ways by layering or by mixing your seasonal pieces to bridge the gap between them.

Inhale... Exhale...

Everyone needs a bit of pampering once in a while. Today, I'm off to the Scandinavian spa! Bring on the steam baths, saunas and hot tubs! I was in a rather peaceful mindset when putting this outfit together. It had to be simple, seeing as I would be changing in and out of it. I chose my ivory Kleenex-ruffle shirt and lace detailed cut-off shorts. I wore my hair in a braided halo to keep it from getting in the way. It was a perfect day for unwinding and recentering.

Navy Floral

Boating season is almost over. Got to make the most of it while we can! Today, I went on another day trip filled with boating, shopping and lunching. I wore my cute white floral-print shorts and opted to pick up on the darkest colour of the print with the top. I simply love the delicate lace sleeves. It is a gorgeous feminine and unexpected touch. Bonus: the lace pattern mimics the floral print of the short! I plopped on my fedora and off I went.

Angular Edges

I remember learning geometric shapes in Kindergarten and getting up one by one to go draw a triangle on the blackboard. I've always loved that shape, maybe because 3 is my favourite number and triangles have 3 sides. Who knows? Today's outfit is very tri-angular! There are a few triangles seen in the seams and the open peplum of the top. There are triangles all around the top and bottom of the belt. I could even debate that the lines in the skirt are very abstract triangles. I have to admit, I don't absolutely love the combination of a peplum top with an A-line skirt. This outfit is not an A+ in my book, but hey, not every outfit is a winner! I love to experiment, and sometimes things don't always turn out the way I pictured them in my head. That said, I do love all the elements of this outfit individually, simply not together. It's all about trial and error, I learn from my fashion faux-pas!

TBT - Midnight Jumpsuit

What to wear to a New Year's Eve house-party? Why a festive jumpsuit, of course! This midnight blue and black print jumpsuit was the perfect pick. It mimics the night sky, and well, yes I was inspired by the said sky when putting together this outfit. I was also inspired by the glistening snow in the moonlight and accessorized with a baby blue shimmery cardigan. The icing on the cake was the white waist belt and Pandora necklace with snowflake charms. It was the perfect look to ring in the New Year!

Mirror Mirror

Mirror prints are so mesmerizing! A simple shift dress becomes a statement piece when it's in an all-over mirror print. I feel "mirror print" is self-explanatory, but for those still questioning the term, it means that the image on the left and right of the centre axis are the exact same, but in reverse from one another. I kept my accessories simple today, seeing as the dress is a great stand-alone piece. Prints come in many different shapes and sizes. There are plenty to go around!

Olive Shirt Dress

When September comes around, I always get that "back-to-school" feeling, even though I'm not technically going back to school. I just can't help it! That was the feeling I got for so many years that it is now programed in me! This time of year is synonym with fall and school uniforms... So I selected this preppy shirt dress in an oh-so-fall colour, olive. Not to be too preppy or boring, I strapped on my trusty leopard-print sandals and added a big medallion necklace to give the outfit a bit of pizzazz!

Chartreuse Blooms

Summer is flitting away... but that does not mean I will stop wearing floral prints! Simply switch out your more vibrant prints with hints of fall colours. The background of the dress is a nice bright teal, whereas the flowers hide hints of brown, mustard and burnt orange. Last I checked those colours were the makeup of the fall palette. This is the perfect transition piece for the in-between seasons. Throw on a cardigan and cute sandals and you're all set to face the chillier mornings and warmer afternoons.

Casual Pencil

Not too long ago I mentioned that a denim pencil skirt was a great way of turning a classic staple into a more casual look. Today, I took the same principle, but applied it in a different way. I dressed down a formal pencil skirt by pairing it with a denim jacket. That simple add on is what gives this look its casual vibe. Without the jacket, it's a lot more formal! Sometimes, it does not take much to tweak an outfit and give it a different feel altogether. Simply adding or removing one key item can make a world of difference.

Jewel Tones

Jewel tones are the best! This particular top reminds me of peacock feathers. It combines shades of sapphire, amethyst and emerald in such a beautiful abstract pattern. Naturally I wore it with a green skirt and sapphire sandals to tie the whole look together. Pretty prints will always be the star of any look. They are the kicking-off point for many of my outfits.

Light Bright

I like to wear unexpected combinations. I thought that by wearing powder blue with this insanely bright skirt would tone it down a bit. No such luck. Either way, I still like the end result. I've always been drawn to the combination of orange and blue, not sure why. Perhaps it reminds me of the bright sun against the light blue sky... Nature is full of inspirations. Don't be afraid to stand out!

TBT - Winter Cottage

Today's outfit is lumber-chic! This country girl paired her plaid flannel shirt with a quilted vest and skinny jeans. To make the look a bit more festive, she added sequin flats! This look was worn to a very low-key family Christmas gathering. Spending time with the family brings back all those country vibes. I made the farmer proud by wearing his signature plaid and the farmer's wife proud by glamming it up a notch! No family gathering is complete without everyone's pets! Mine were in tow!

Peaches n' Cream

This outfit screams 80's! It has the combination of peach and white, peplum, and a statement waist belt. The only thing missing is the crimped hair! Regardless of the colours and accessories, the basic build of this outfit is quite classic. A pencil skirt will almost always pair well with a peplum top. Belting a peplum top is a sure way of accentuating the waist. It's a winning combination, no matter which decade we are in.

Pink Lady

This outfit is so Rizzo from Grease! I mean, I would fit right in with the Pink Ladies. Today, I wore my florescent pink peplum top with white pants. I toned down the bright pink with a baby pink leather jacket. Come to think of it, this jacket is the perfect combination of Pink Lady (pink) and T Bird (leather)! See, we can all get along just fine! This jacket is the greatest colour to take you from summer to fall in an easy-does-it kind of way. You can start layering, but you don't have to let go of your bright colours just yet!

Lavender Mint

Ah coloured jeans. I literally have a rainbow of skinny jeans. They are a bit of an obsession... Today I overdosed on lavender. I wore lavender jeans with lavender sandals and, here's the killer, lavender polish! I therefore kept the top half of the outfit a bit more neutral, but could not resist adding a mint tear-drop necklace and mint earrings. I guess this could qualify as colour blocking, although the mint is a bit more subtle than the other coulours... Either way, I loved this outfit and would wear it again, lavender polish and all!

Comfy Movie

I sense a theme lately...comfort! Can you blame me? I'm getting antsy for fall and starting my winter-cocooning phase. Yes, in my head I go through the same renewing phases as nature does in Canada. I'm like a phoenix or a butterfly: in constant renewal! So that was the philosophy lesson for the day. When going to the movies, I opt for comfortable clothing. I want to enjoy the show, and not want to be bothered by uncomfortable garments. I chose a super soft grey jumpsuit, added an asymmetrical cardigan and flats. The extra layer is a must when the AC is on full-blast! By carrying a small cross-body purse, you bring only the essentials and you won't have to worry about your bag touching the icky-sticky floor! Don't get me wrong, I love the movies, but those floors...

Soft Black

Some days just call for comfy attire. These soft pants are my go-to when I want to feel like I'm in my PJ's, yet am actually sitting in my office. I paired the pants with a high-low button-up blouse and threw on nude wedges and my trusty Panama hat. Wearing heels with soft pants will always dress them up and instantly make you look put together. Incognito lounge wear for the office = genius!

Nautical Lace and Denim

Bored of the nautical style yet? If so, you better brace yourself because it is not going anywhere anytime soon. It has been a classic for ages, and will most likely never die (at least that's what I'm hoping). This cute lace striped t-shirt is a fun take on the Breton stripes. It is not white and navy, but the lighter lace stripes give it that vibe. I paired it with a white pencil denim skirt and white pointed-toe flats. If you look really closely, the bracelet is a silver knot! It's a cute nod to the nautical knot. I love a formal pencil skirt, but denim pencil skirts are a great, more casual, alternative. You end up looking put together, yet do not feel constrained in any way. I'm all for freedom of movement!

TBT - Sweater Weather

Sweater weather is upon us. It won't be long now! I am someone who is always feeling chilly, that is why I love sweaters so much. They are warm, comfy and they feel like a constant hug. What is there not to like? Naturally, I own a few sweater dresses because, who am I kidding, they are like the 2.0 version of sweaters! I paired today's ivory sweater dress with a gray waist belt, grey patterned tights and my gray winter boots. Simple, yet elegant and functional!

Minnie Mouse is in the House

For those of you who have not picked up on the fact I am a big Disney fan, this outfit is sure to make that very clear! When I think of the combination of polka dots, the colour red and bows, I can think of none other than Minnie Mouse. Her look is so iconic, I cannot break the association with these three elements. Today's outfit is full-blown Minnie. I paired my classic black and white polka dot dress with a red cardigan, red flats and a black bow belt. I topped off the outfit by doing my hair in a hair-bow à la Lady Gaga (although mine is not as big and fabulous). Short of wearing mouse ears, I feel I pretty much embodied the spirit of Minnie today! I felt cute as a button!

Grey Dress

I absolutely adore this dress. It is a well-structured A-line shape, but made of a sweatshirt-like material. Its light grey colour provides a perfect neutral background for outfit building. It can literally be worn all year round. Just add tights and a sweater, or blazer, and you're all set for the cooler temps. Today's look is a summer one. I brightened the grey with pops of canary yellow and cobalt lace up sandals to add interest. There were no gray skies to be seen today!

Crowning Purple

Yellow and purple are a royal combination in my book! Yellow is the colour of gold, therefore very regal. As for purple, it is the colour associated with royalty. The dying process used to obtain the colour purple was a long and arduous one. It involved sea snails, look it up! As a result, only the very wealthy could afford to purchase cloth in that shade. These two colours have been my favourites for as long as I can remember!  Wearing them together seemed like a no-brainer. Perhaps my subconscious is tapping into my regal attitude!

Nautical Flow

I absolutely adore my nautical stripped shorts! I sure got a lot of wear out of them this summer. I naturally gravitate towards these when there is a water activity in mind. I just can't help it! I paired the shorts with my flowy cobalt top and a nautical-knot inspired necklace. I even wore my little silver seahorse earrings. This outfit sure made a splash!

Cropped Floral

Feelin' crop, crop, crop! Anyone who knows me knows that when my hair is tightly braided, it's because it's really hot out! On a day of running errands and getting stuff done, I opted for a floral crop top with light blue shorts. The flats were a must for the comfort factor. Cool and practical where the too requirements I had in mind when getting dressed. This outfit allowed me to breeze through my to-do list in a relative state of coolness.

Springtime Pastels

It's hard not to associate pastel colours with Easter. Anytime I wear a combination of pastels, I feel like I should be hunting for chocolate eggs in the garden. Oh well, just the fact that it is not springtime will not stop me from wearing head-to-toe pastels. If my outfit inspires you to give me chocolate, then so be it! I love the stuff!

TBT - Distressed Diva

Distressed denim can be worn in a more formal setting. It's all in how you style them! I paired mine with a silk and lace camisole and a structured fishtail blazer. I added a few bits of jewelry in silver and finished off with black suede booties. This outfit can take you from the office to drinks and everything in between! Casual Friday never looked so good!

Damask and Turquoise

Today's dress really is white and navy, no black here! What sold me on this dress was the damask print. I absolutely adore damask printed anything. I find it has a nice regal feel to it, the print is both formal and whimsical. I wanted to brighten things up a bit, so I paired the dress with turquoise earrings and cardigan, as well as purple heels. A print that can sometimes feel a bit stuffy feels fresh and light with the addition of these vibrant pieces.

Black and Blue

This dress is actually black and white, but I feel like it could also pass as white and navy. If I were to pair it with something navy, it would trick the eye into thinking it really was navy instead of black. I like to use this little trick to my advantage. It also makes the dress that little bit more versatile. Today, I chose to stick with a black shawl and went for pops of colour with cobalt accessories. I sort of used the same principle as the navy, but opted for a brighter shade of blue, to really make it stand out. I would not have chosen to mix black and navy elements with this dress because I feel it would all look mismatched. Navy and black are too close to one another to be cohesive when both paired with this dress. By choosing cobalt, I made sure that the blue was very distinguishable from the black. I am not, under any circumstances, saying that black and navy never go together. It all depends on the outfit!
