Skirting the Trend

I love it when trends cycle back around! I dug up this cute little flutter-sleeve top from a few years ago and it fits right in with the trend of the season. I knew I hung onto it for a reason. I decided to pair it with my midi printed-skirt for a dose of colour. Throw in studded flats and statement earrings and you've got one fun and flirty springtime look!

Pastel Palette

You can never go wrong with a neutral base. That was my starting point with today's look, a simple nude dress. I accessorized with pastels and ended up with a cute look. There is no need to overcomplicate things. Sometimes, the easiest look to put together is a simple, uncomplicated one. Seeing as I wore this on a Tuesday following a long weekend, I think I did pretty well!

Monday Motivation

Although it might seem that way, this post is in no way sponsored by Old Navy. I simply like their workout clothes. I am a Lululemon lover through and through, but can't afford all the things all the time. I'm always on the lookout for good workout clothing alternatives and am very picky. (Once you have Lululemon stuff, it's hard to settle for anything else. P.S. I have a lot of the older, better quality stuff.) When my mom told me how she liked the Old Navy clothing, I thought I'd give it a try. For the last year or so, I've been buying a few pieces here and there. I'm a fan of their compression crops and finally decided to try the sports bras and shorts. Turns out, I really like them! The seamless bra is super comfortable and stays in place while the shorts are really light and breezy which makes them perfect to run in. They have a ton of cute prints, plus those prices are hard to beat! I will definitely be keeping an eye out on this collection!

The Long and Short

The days are getting longer and short season is upon us! When the temperature rises, the hemlines get shorter, so I opted to wear my white short shorts to try and soak up as much vitamin D as possible today. I paired them with a cobalt print tank and sandals. It was so nice to be outside and getting a taste of that summer weather. Here's to many more beautiful days to come!

Whatever Weather

This is officially the first time I've worn shorts this season! I had an evening of shopping and hanging out with my godmother, so a practical, casual look war required. I decided on distressed denim shorts, my "n'importe quoi" t-shirt and black block-heeled sandals. I actually didn't end up wearing the cardigan, but it was a neatly tucked in my bag in case the evening got cooler. One must always be prepared, especially around unpredictable Canadian weather...

The Pineapple of my Eye

So after two crazy hot days, I thought it was time to finally wear the pineapple top. Turns out it was really chilly today. Go figure... I can't seem to wear a weather-appropriate outfit lately. Let's hope that summer will be here to stay, because I'm not giving up on the fruity top anytime soon. I really like pineapple, and it's such a pretty fruit too. It also reminds me of one of our timing exercises in tap class. The pineapple helps us count the triplet. We have a whole fruit salad theme going on there... Anyways, all that to say I couldn't get my hands on this top fast enough. It's the perfect summer addition to my closet and I plan on wearing it plenty this summer. I paired it with jeans, green and summer accessories. I might have looked ready for summer, but summer was not quite ready to make an appearance. Better luck next time I wear it?

TBT - Chic Sheath

This classy white sheath with black piping is a great addition to any wardrobe. The classic cut and simple lines make it easy to wear and give any look that extra bit of polish. I personally feel it has a slight nautical vibe to it. Sadly, I never got around to styling it with red seeing as it was unsalvageable following the fire. I will keep an eye out for a similar dress because it really has that perfect timelessness to it. With summer stock it stores right now, I hope I find a decent replacement. Fingers crossed!

Hot Pants

I have no idea what I was thinking when I decided to wear pants today. We had a couple crazy hot days last week, and I had just stepped outside before realizing I had not chosen the right outfit... It was too late to change at that point, so I braved the heat wave in my printed pants and was ever so grateful for the breeze. My pastel colour palette was perfect for the season, but my choice in legwear was less than informed. I usually check the weather obsessively, but, for some odd reason, I hadn't that day... Anyways, on to the look. To give my darker pants a fresh take, I decided to pair them with a mash up of pastels and brights. The picture might not be too clear, but to me the tank is mint and the cardigan is more turquoise. Even if they are not a perfect match, I wanted to layer them. I don't find they clash, but mint and turquoise can sometimes be indistinguishable from one another. I added the bright fuchsia belt as I find it gives the look dimension and accentuates the two separate halves of the outfit. Blush sandals blend in well and don't compete with any other element. Had my pants been shorts, this look would have also been appropriate for the weather. I'll be sure to double-check the forecast before selecting tomorrow's look!

Black to Basics

A little black dress and a plain solid t-shirt are classic wardrobe staples. When you mash 'em together, you get the black t-shirt dress, a perfect back-to-basics piece. It's the ultimate blank canvas and can be the building block to almost any outfit, no matter the setting. I added this oh-so comfy garment to my arsenal and I predict it will be repeated often. Today, I paired it with a denim jacket and studded flats for a casual look. It can easily be dressed up or down. Plus, with clever layering it is suitable for any season. Who knew such a simple, basic piece could be so exciting?

Same, Set, Match!

It doesn't get any more basic and classic than a black and white outfit. Today's look is actually a coordinated top and skirt in a fun graphic print. I rolled up the sleeves to show the reverse side of the material for that added contrast. (P.S. the skirt is totally reversible. Hello versatility!) I finished off the fun and quirky look with a polka dot bandana scarf and black t-strap heels to give it a bit of vintage glam. The accessories totally transform the look and give it an air of sophistication, without compromising the whimsical aspects. Add some oversized sunnies, and you are all set to watch tennis at Wimbledon!

Coral Bloom

Springtime calls for pastel denim! Springtime also calls for pretty florals. (Just stating the obvious here...) I figured a combination of two seasonal must-haves is a no-brainer. In comes the cute pastel top with ruffle detail. I picked up on the subtle coral in the top to match the jeans and finished off the look with a nude blazer. Sprinkle-in a hint of metallic with the shoes and voilà, a look that encapsulates the "May flowers" saying, because let's face it, we are totally over those "April Showers"...

Snakeskin is a Moss

I was inspired by nature for today's look. I combined a snakeskin-print top with distressed desert wash jeans and a moss-coloured cardigan for that earthy vibe. I added canvas platform pumps and a statement pearl necklace for hints of glamour. All in all, I think this looks has the right amount of "woodsy" elements, but done in a totally work-appropriate casual look. I've been looking for a pea soup cardigan for a while now and am so happy to have finally found one! It was a stroke of luck, because I was not actively looking for one. I love it when fashion karma is on my side! I was actually with my mom when I found it and she was not a fan of the colour. But I love it, so I got it anyways! Sorry mom, I do value your opinion, but I know what I like and was not going to pass this one up. I have zero regrets and can't wait to style it in more looks. I admit it's a very unconventional colour, but if you like something, I say go for it! I only wear what I really like, so if you love it, you will wear it. Follow your gut!

Birds of a Feather

I just had to get my hands on a flamingo t-shirt, I just had to! This sequin-embellished one from J. Crew Factory is the cutest! It's pink and shiny and comfy and easy to wear! It will definitely be on repeat this summer! I love a good graphic tee and this one is oh so cute. I find I lean more towards cutesy and matchy styles during the summer months. I guess it has to do with the taking-it-easy vibe of the season that brings me back to all those fond childhood memories of having the summer off and going on family vacations. Who really knows? This shirt seams to bring out the kid in me and makes me want to go to the beach! It won't be long now before I get to dip my toes in this year! Come on summer!

TBT - Off the Clock

If you have an hourglass or a pear shape, I say accentuate the waist! This is exactly what I've done here by wearing a peplum top with a waist belt. I added skinny jeans to keep the shape in focus and finished off the look with nude pumps and a vibrant necklace. This is the perfect casual Friday look as it dresses up otherwise basic jeans and gives them an air of sophistication. You can go straight from work to happy hour in this look. What more could you need to start the weekend?

And That's Ikat

Ok, I went full on business attire today. No particular reason why, I just felt like dressing to the nines! I absolutely love this simple navy ikat-print dress. It's nothing over the top but it still has that wow-factor. I chose not to wear the sash belt that comes with it and added a white blazer and navy d'Orsay pumps. It's not a complicated look, yet it is very put together. This just goes to say, looking the part can be simple and straight forward. Looking great is an easy thing to do in order to feel great. They go hand in hand! I sure felt like a boss today (even though I'm not!)

Double Green

To me, spring brings to mind all things green and floral. This outfit was a no-brainer to style! I started with the floral green top and layered a mint cardigan over it. I find the lighter shade tones down the darker ones in the top and make it seem fresh! I added my current faves, the girlfriend jeans, and felt the outfit was cute and perfectly acceptable for the not-too-warm springtime weather. White flats also help anchor the look and give off that almost-summer vibe! I feel the colder temps are dragging on this year, I can't wait for the slightly warmer weather to make an appearance!
