Mimi Takes Five - #365

ONE //
Projector Nights
My husband suggested we set up our projector outside for an at-home movie date night and I was all for it. It's been so hot but the nights are starting to cool down, making it ideal outdoor movie weather. We actually ended up keeping the screen up the entire weekend and spent three consecutive evenings watching TV outside. It was the perfect little routine for a low-key long weekend at home. The first night we watched Nonnas on Netflix and found it to be a very endearing story. The next nights we watched a few of the Trainwreck documentaries (Baloon Boy and Storm Area 51). Both stories were baffling, to say the least... Seeing as it was the first time this year that we set up the projector outside, we made up for lost time by using it all weekend long! I really find this a great way to enjoy our backyard fully this time of year.

TWO // Sourdough Success
It had been a couple months since I last baked a real sourdough loaf. I've been baking breads, just not sourdough. However, I've been keeping my starter alive and decided to give it a go last weekend. Well, it turned out beautifully! I was seeing positive signs throughout every step of the process and was really hopeful that this one would turn out. I'm still learning and it's been a journey. However, I'm building some confidence in my sourdough skills and this bread proves it! For the first time, I decided to start a dedicated notebook in which I will track all details of my future attempts. I'm hoping that by doing this I'll be able to spot patterns and hone in on what's working and what isn't. I was sort of tracking haphazardly in the past, but think I need to be more on top of it to really get the big picture. This loaf rose well, had a little ear and good blistering (all good signs!) My crumb was not perfect and still had a few bigger bubbles that were a little bit gummy. However, it tasted delicious and the texture was pretty good. I'm calling this one a success even though there is room for improvement.

THREE // Toppers Pickle Pizza
Speaking of baked goods... We decided to get Toppers the other night and my husband noticed this offering when scrolling the website. I am a big dill pickle person. I love anything and everything dill pickled flavoured. My husband is the total opposite and loathes the flavour. We decided to get two pizzas that night so that I could sink my teeth into this exciting pizza topping. Well, it's the best dill pickle pizza I have ever had! It's the perfect balance of pickle flavour and garlic sauce with cheese. I love the idea of shredding the pickles so that you really get some in every bite. This pizza was so good I had it twice in the same week! If you happen to be a fellow dill pickle lover, do not sleep on this pizza!

FOUR // Leggings
I decided to get a few new pairs of colourful leggings. I'd been wanting a red option for a while now and ended up getting these ribbed ones. I find they don't have as much stretch, so I might not wear them for intense workouts but they are perfect for everyday wear. They'll be perfect paired with a Christmas sweater during the holidays, ha ha! I'd also been wanting a pair of orange leggings but a more muted shade. It took a while to find some but I finally did. These ones are buttery soft and very stretchy - so comfortable. I plan on wearing them a lot this fall; both for exercise and as lounge wear with a cozy knit.

FIVE // Mrs. Brown's Boys - Season 5
What a treat it was to find out that there will be a fifth season of Mrs. Brown's Boys! For the last few years, we've only been getting holiday specials (which I love and very much look forward to) but we haven't gotten a full season since 2023. I really enjoy this show! I happen to find it very funny and each character is as endearing as the next. I also have a soft spot for their song interludes! From what I've been able to gather, there will be four new episodes and each will be released weekly throughout August. I know they are playing on BBC iPlayer for those who have access to it but there is no word yet on a Canadian release... Here's to hoping I get to watch these sooner rather than later!
