Mimi Takes Five - #191

ONE // Spring Rainbows
Now that the days are longer and the sun is shining more, my rainbows are back in full swing! I cannot say how much I love the sporadic rainbow appearances in my home. I smile every time I catch a glimpse of the colourful projections! While I did get the odd appearance of faint rainbows during the winter months, they were few and far between. Usually appearing midafternoon. Luckily, I still got to enjoy them a bit while working from home. But, for the past week or so, they have been appearing more often and brighter, which makes my heart sing. Spring is definitely on the way when the rainbows reappear! All of my rainbows come from my trusty little Nutmeg and Arlo suncatcher. She just released a very cute bee version this week!

TWO // Aqua Blue Grosgrain Headband
Did I get my first Hill House headband? Why yes, yes I did. I haven't bought a headband in a long time because I already have a pretty extensive collection that I still wear frequently. However, I was lacking a light turquoise shade and had to remedy that omission. I fell in love with the simple, thin Maeve headband at Hill House. On the Victorian Romance Drop Day, I knew I was getting the Pond Floral Ellie and I added the headband on a whim. It's a great match for the dress and will go so well with a lot of my spring/summer wardrobe. It's a great addition to my hair accessory collection and I love that the small shape of this headband changes things up from my bolder ones.

THREE // Turning Red
I finally got around to watching the new Pixar animated film Turning Red. First off, I love that it's set in a Canadian city; I was not expecting that! I also got hit hard with the nostalgia of the late 90s early aughts. I mean, the little tamagotchi, the black tattoo necklace, the fanning over a boy band, and major grunge style of Miriam. Also, hello to yet another TV character to have my name! I've gone my whole life never hearing my name on TV and now it's showed up twice in the last few years (Mrs. Maisel being the other one, I'll let you guess which one I relate to the most).

Now for the story. It's a coming-of-age story that focuses on the physical changes brought on by puberty along with the relationship between a parent and child. I think we can all relate to these struggles at some point. Being a teenager can be a very challenging time in one's life and has a big influence on the person we ultimately become. The name of the movie was not lost on me. Being a woman, I'm very aware of the stigma attached to menstruation. I was lucky that I grew up in a family that openly talked about it and celebrated that coming of age. I actually remember my grandma congratulating me over the phone when I got my first period. The fact that my family was so open about the topic went a long way in diminishing the embarrassment that is often associated with the monthly cycle. I'm happy that this movie addresses the issue head on and I think it should be discussed more in society and should not be a burden solely carried by women.

I'm also pleased that the movie ended with the mending of Mei and Ming's relationship. It shows that every relationship has ups and downs but that it's worth fighting for. Speaking of fighting, the scene when her aunts all break their respective talismans to help save Ming totally gave me Sailor Moon flashbacks! Also, anyone else find that the Red Panda form was giving off hints of Totoro... Where are my 90s kids at? I want to finish off by mentioning one last thing. Can we talk about that food scene? The one where the dad is cooking dinner? I mean, I was entranced! The animation was a familiar mash-up of a lot of my childhood favourites, but kicked up a notch! I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and highly recommend it!

FOUR // March Ipsy
Well, I finally received my March Ipsy glam bag yesterday. This one sure took its time and arrived on the last day of the month! I didn't get the chance to test out all the products, but I did try on the snazzy shower cap and it fits alright (I'll have to try it out in the shower at some point) and the lipstick, which happens to be a perfect shade for me. So far, so good. Hopefully, the rest of the products keep the trend going, ha ha! I'm looking forward to trying out the eyebrow kit, the cleanser, the eye creme and the two masks (face and hair). Here's to hoping the next bag arrives a bit quicker!

FIVE // Bridgerton - Season 2
It took me all of two days to watch the entire second season of Bridgerton... I am not ashamed to admit it! I am definitely team binge-watch all the way, ha ha! To be honest, it's such a good show and the second season brought the drama, in the most elegant way, of course. Now, I was in a hurry to watch is as to not get any spoilers, but I'll avoid spoiling it for anyone who has yet to watch it. The usual things one could expect were present, such as the glamorous balls, the very best of Regency fashions, and definitely the inner workings of the gossip spreading among the ton. I am a big fan of the new characters this season but was very happy to rejoin some of my favourites from season 1. While the first season centred around Daphne finding a husband, the second season focuses on Anthony finding his viscountess. I do appreciate that we got more background story this time around and that's all I'll be saying about that!
