Mimi Takes Five - #318

ONE // Apple Pie
I guess it's a bit of a tradition now. This is the second year in a row that I bake an apple pie from scratch. I have yet to make it to an apple orchard this year, but my husband managed to pick enough apples one afternoon to make a pie! I made a crust, but struggled a bit with it as it was very crumbly and would crack. I managed to salvage it, but it was not pretty. Instead of making a lattice design on the top, I took out a cookie cutter and filled it with tiny scalloped dough circles. It did end up looking cute! I'm not sure the type of apples my husband picked, but the bigger ones were a bit sweeter while he also picked crab apples which are very tart. We just mixed the two! I could have put more sugar in the filling because the result was a tad tart. However, we both love tart apples so enjoyed our pie very much. I have yet to perfect my apple pie, but it is well on its way!

TWO // Spice Cardigan
I have found the most perfect fall cardigan! While I have a good selection of cardigans, I didn't have one in a warm orange-y shade. Well, now I do! If I were to assign a specific colour to pumpkin spice, it would be this shade of spicy orange. Not only is this cardigan the perfect colour but it is so very soft and cozy! I'm also a fan of the slightly cropped silhouette as it makes it ideal for pairing with dresses and high-waisted garments. I cannot wait to layer this little number with everything this fall. It will be on repeat, guaranteed!

THREE // HHH Fall Drop
This week, Hill House released their fall collection. I always have a soft spot for the fall and holiday drops, they are my favourite seasons to dress for and I am drawn to all the fabrics, textures and colour palettes. Every time a line sheet drops, I go through it with a fine-toothed comb (and secretly hope to not like everything). Naturally, I always end up with an unrealistic wish list... I held out on the pre-fall pieces thinking I'd really get the full picture before deciding on anything. Well, I'm even less decided now! I love the burgundy plaid skirt, the navy brocade ribbon Ellie and the quilted Thayer coat, the Ren cardigan and the Valentina jacket. Not to mention the two Ellies in the fleur chintz. Seeing as I can't decide, and none of these pieces are absolute needs, I'm mulling it over. I may hold out for the holiday collection and then decide. Or I might wait for the end of year sale and hope what I like is still available. Decisions, decisions... If I had an unlimited budget, I would just get it all!

FOUR // Flickering Candles
I added a few tidbits to my autumn décor this year. I was specifically on the hunt for things that add light in the evenings. I love a cozy glow! I found these gorgeous pumpkin pillar candles at Michaels and they are perfect! I got one tall and one short. They are battery operated, which means there is no real flame. I had ordered them online and hadn't realized that they were actually made of wax, which was a pleasant surprise when I unboxed them! This makes them look even more realistic. I absolutely love the extra mood lighting they provide in the evenings. All the feels of a candle without the worry of an open flame. Very, very pleased with these new additions!

FIVE // Autumn Soaps
We all know how much I like to spend time just smelling things in Bath and Body Works this time of year. Well, I also stock up on my favourite soaps! I treated myself to the Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte body wash and the Afternoon Apple Picking hand soap for our powder room. I'm a big scent person, so having seasonal scents in my home this time of year really helps create that warm and comforting ambiance. Cozy is the name of the game, so give me all the spicy and fruity seasonal scents!
