It has been so long since I last sat down to do a puzzle - and I've missed it! I think the last one I did was last year, probably around the holidays, so yeah, I was long overdue. One of my colleagues even gave me about eight puzzles too, so they've just been piling up. I decided last weekend that it was time. I was intrigued by the dragon puzzle, so that's the one I started with. While a beautiful image, the irregular shape made it more challenging to sort the edge pieces out. I did OK, but could definitely not do the entire outline like I normally do. It was actually refreshing to have to adapt and try a different method. I ultimately really enjoyed this puzzle! I've even got its next puzzlers lined up. My sister-in-law will really love doing this one with the kids! Half the fun in doing puzzles is passing them along to the next person to discover.
I have made a whole selection of pumpkin flavoured baked goods these past years but had never made a pumpkin pie. I don't think I've ever mentioned it here, but pumpkin pie has always been my favourtie pie flavour since I was a kid. I was that odd kid that liked pumpkin pie over all other varieties... Well, I came across this recipe and decided to give it a whirl. I had all of the ingredients on hand, so it was meant to be. It was fairly straightforward and pretty simple, really. I had no issues whatsoever and the pie turned out great! I was curious about the graham crumb crust, but it's actually (dare I say?) better than a regular pie crust. The filling blends in so well with the crust that it's almost like just filling. A good dollop of whipped cream is all you need to top it off. I'll be making this again. Maybe even every fall from here on out!
THREE // More Décor
The last little tidbits I added to my fall décor this year are this tiny orange fabric pumpkin and a waxed pinecone electric candle. The pinecone is made the same way as my pillar candles and I think they are great and add so much to the cozy mood when lit. I was a bit surprised when I unboxed it as the pinecone was shorter and wider/rounder than the images on the website and the colour was closer to orange than brown... I was thinking of using a brown crayon and just adding on some of that brown hue. I haven't gotten around to it yet and think the candle fits in well with the rest of my décor. Overall, I'm very happy with these little additions. I try to be reasonable and really just add something if it's special and will go well with the rest. It's easy to get carried away and get all the fall décor, but I only have so many surfaces to decorate!
FOUR // Brown Cardigan
I got this brown cardigan a few years ago but am finding myself reaching for it repeatedly this year. It's a medium brown hue with slight rust undertones, making it a perfect option for all of my fall outfits. I love the richness of the colour and we all know I'm a big fan of solid-coloured cardigans for their versatility and ease of wear. I have a literal rainbow of cardigans and think they are the ideal pieces to have at hand to add a level of chicness to my style. Also, they are timeless! I know brown is not exactly the first colour people gravitate towards, but it does serve as a great base and a softer alternative to black, especially in the fall.
FIVE // Countdown to Christmas
I know it's only September, but we must start planning for Christmas now. Hallmark (the Christmas Mother Ship) has released its usual Countdown to Christmas and Miracles of Christmas line-ups. You know the drill - save or print these checklists to make sure to keep track of all the new movies. However, there's a curve ball this year! Hallmark is adding a new list of must-see holiday movies with The Very Merry Holiday Collection, a Hallmark+ exclusive. There will be a four-part movie and then a trilogy! I'm really looking forward to this new way of getting even more seasonal screenings! You can't ever have too much of a good thing, right? I mean, watching Hallmark Christmas movies is my love language. Get cozy, snuggle up and fill your cup with Christmas cheer!
