Mimi Takes Five - #347

ONE // Sugar Shack
We haven't been to a real Sugar Shack in a couple years so my husband started planning an outing early this year. He picked a very authentic venue and made sure to book a time slot during which there'd be live music as well. Ambiance in everything! We invited a slew of people and ended up being three couples. We had such a great time! The weather was awful - freezing rain. The thing is you never know what the weather will be like in March; it ranges from mild springlike weather to brutal winter storm. All in all we fared alright as it was just above freezing. We spent hours at our table talking and stuffing our faces with everything from pea soup, to eggs, to baked beans, to pork rinds and everything drowned in gallons of maple syrup. There's no other way to make the most of sugar season in Canada!

ŦWO // Yellow Scarf
I've been wearing my scarves a lot lately and I'm loving it! I go through phases, but I always return to my beloved scarves. I wear them around my neck but also in my hair and, soon enough, I'll be styling them on my bag handles again. I find them to be the most versatile accessory and they never go out of style. They might cycle in and out but scarves aren't going anywhere. Naturally, I added to my collection. This butter yellow floral bandana scarf is a perfect addition for spring and summer. I love yellow and didn't have a purely yellow option so it was an easy decision. Besides, it's a perfect match to my new yellow cardigan. It's going to be a yellow year!

THREE // Extracted
Seeing as there's no Canadian Big Brother this year, my husband and I needed a new game show to watch. Luckily for us, Extracted is in its first season. My husband is a big fan of survival shows (and has converted me). He found out about this new show and thought it would be a good one to watch together. Seeing as we watch intense shows like Alone, I was expecting this one to have a big survival component. However, being that it's a game show, the format is a little different. There are twelve teams of three. Each team has one team member out in the Canadian wilderness (the survivalist) and the other two are in a room with the other teams' families. While the one is isolated and trying to survive, the other two are in a war room of sorts and having to compete and strategize against the other teams to help their survivor outlast the others. It really puts teamwork at the centre of the challenge. While it might not seem like it at first, it becomes apparent that the duos in the war room have a just as challenging if not more challenging mission. The biggest twist is that only the companions have the power to extract their survivalist from the wilderness, not the other way around. This really plays on the emotional and mental component of survival. Season 1 is well underway and I can't wait to see how it ends! It plays on Mondays on CTV.

FOUR // Coral Manicure
I loved my lilac manicure so much recently that I decided to paint my nails again! There's something about springtime that gives me the urge to paint my nails in pretty pastel colours. I went for a pink with coral undertone this time. I love this colour so much! It's not too dark or too light and is just the right pigment of pink for my skin tone. Pretty candy-coloured nails is my vibe lately.

FIVE // Jelly Shoes
Ok, I know fashion is cyclical, but I never thought we'd be here again... When I was a kid, my cousins were visiting from Québec and one of them had these clear jelly shoes. I was instantly obsessed! So much so that my aunt bought and shipped me a pair when they got back home. I don't remember very many details from that visit apart from the shoes! I think my flair for fashion started at a young age... Anyways, I had made those shoes my whole personality and was sad when I outgrew them. I never ever thought jelly shoes would make a comeback, yet here we are. Old Navy has them in a few colours right now. I'm not sure if I want to get a pair or leave my fond memories alone. Anyone else remember jelly shoes?
