Mimi Takes Five - #388

ONE // Home Refresh
After a very busy holiday break and the first week back to work and routines, I finally took the time to put away Christmas. I was ok with keeping everything up an extra week because I feel I didn't get to fully enjoy my décor this year because we were gone for so much of the break. I missed my lit tree on cozy nights watching Christmas movies, I didn't get my fill this season! That being said, I stretched things out long enough and put everything away on the 10th. I don't care that we were well into January, my Christmas tree makes me happy so I enjoyed it for a bit longer. It's always bitter-sweet putting everything away and I find the space so empty and sad afterwards. That's why I put out a few winter décor bits here and there to make the transition less harsh. A snowflake cushion does not replace a Christmas tree but I'll still take it!

TWO // Bird
Speaking of décor, my brother made me this adorable little blue bird! How cute is this thing? He surprised the entire family with a present game over Christmas. He had made five little wooden birds from my nephew's broken taekwondo boards. I thought the whole concept was genius! As we were playing the game, more presents got opened and revealed a unique bird creation. I ended up with the "eggplant" coloured bird and turns out he had made that one with our home's colour palette in mind. I mean, could he be anymore thoughtful? He spent countless hours cutting, sanding and painting to make us these priceless gifts! I was so pleased and touched by his surprise! I'll cherish my little birdie for years to come and gave it pride of place on my sideboard.

THREE // Cheese Board
We had some friends over for a cheese board/board game night last week and it was such a fun time! I'm a big fan of a cheese board and love any excuse to put one together. It makes for a really easy, fun dinner. I say dinner because I like to make a giant cheese board with all the options. The flavour combinations are endless and every bite is a different little treat. What's there not to love? We also found out that a cheese board is the ideal dinner option when the power goes out... Yup, we were just about to sit down for dinner when a power outage happened. Not a big deal, we pivoted and my husband got the bin with all our camping lights and we set it up above the dining room table. Dinner was not ruined because the power went out. Hosting can be challenging, but I'm even more sold on the idea of a cheese board for an intimate gathering!

FOUR // Amethyst Stud Earrings
While on vacation, I decided to treat myself to a pair of amethyst halo stud earrings. It was Christmas after all, so I bought myself a gift! I love simple gemstone halo stud earrings and didn't have purple ones so it was an easy sell. I've already worn them a handful of times and find this style to be a perfect everyday option. They are just big enough and with the right amount of shine to wear casually without being too much. Naturally, they can also be dressed up easily if you are going for those clean, simple, classic vibes. The deep purple of the amethysts is stunning - you know I have a thing for jewel tones! The perfect gift to myself to remember our Christmas in the sun!

FIVE //Bridgerton - Season 4
The timing couldn't be better for me as the fourth season starts a couple days after my birthday, January 29. It's just the January pick-me-up I needed! I've been a fan of the series since it first dropped and have been looking forward to each new season since. I have yet to read the books (although I do have one in my TBR pile...) but I fully intend to sink my teeth into this written collection. Perhaps this year will be the year! As is the usual format, this season will focus on the romantic relationship of one of the Bridgertons - this time Benedict takes centre stage. The preview is very Cinderella coded and I am here for all the escapist fairytale vibes. Bring on the romance, the drama, the intrigue - I want all the piping hot tea!
