Mimi Takes Five - #389

ONE // Minestrone Soup
My husband mentioned out of nowhere that he wanted to make a minestrone soup the other day. He's never made one before but figured it couldn't be that hard. So we looked up a few different recipes to get an idea of the ingredients and picked up the few missing bits at the grocery store. My husband whipped it up without any issues and it turned out amazingly! The smell and taste were on point - you'd think he made one every week. My contribution to the meal was a fresh loaf of sourdough, my first bread of the season. Nothing beats a bowl of comforting soup with a side of warm, buttered bread on a cold winter's day. I mean, this is what my dreams are made of!

TWO // Wedding Anniversary
It was our 7-year anniversary on Monday. It was actually snowing this year, just as it had on our wedding day (it was more of a blizzard, but you know, same same!) It really doesn't feel like it's been 7 years; time really does go by fast, doesn't it? Looking back on it, I still think it was the most epic day. The weather made it very memorable and we couldn't have planned it that way. We had to change a few things last minutes because of the storm, but I think that's how it was all meant to be. We were surrounded by family and friends on a cold winter night to celebrate our love. We kept things very low-key this year and marked the occasion by getting an Indian take-out. Spicy food is also a great call on a cold winter's night!

THREE // Valentine's Day Countdown
I love a good countdown, especially for a holiday. It just builds the anticipation and I love having a fun day to look forward to. I happened across this crafting account years ago when Jessie was making an upcycled Advent calendar with various boxes she had held onto over time. The end result of that project was awe-inspiring! I still remember it and loved following along that journey. Well, Jessie is at it again, this time with a Valentine's Day countdown banner. She's decorating 14 envelopes that she will fill with little treats to open up every day in the run up to Valentine's Day. I love this idea and find it's a fun way for people to use their craft stashes and work on a fun project. I won't be attempting my own (this year, anyway) but am enjoying following along the journey.

FOUR // Hill House Hearts
I'm a sucker for a heart print so Valentine's Day collections always get my attention. For years now Hill House has been releasing a new heart-print and capsule collection that make my heart sing. I hesitated on the Love Letters print from a few years ago, but ended up getting the Lots of Hearts version from last year. I've worn that dress so many times and found it to be a great spring/summer option. Hearts are not seasonal, in my opinion. I equate a heart print to being similar enough to a floral print that it can be worn whenever floral prints can. That's just my hot take. This year's heart prints are simply darling with lots of sleepwear options. I think a heart-print dress is a must in every wardrobe. I've got a few and wear them all the time!

FIVE // Pink Scarf
I've had this red and pink plaid blanket scarf for years now. It's one of many in my collection of heavy winter wear. Those who live in Canada know. I've found myself reaching for it a lot lately and find it to be a great cheerful option for cold, dark winter days. It pairs perfectly with a bright red coat and the red and pink palette lends itself very well to Valentine's Day vibes. Just like I turn to certain plaids during the festive period, I turn to this colourway for mid-winter. Let this be your reminder that something as simple as a brightly coloured scarf can lift your spirit (even if just momentarily) on a cold winter day.
