Our Home is Native Land

I'm trading in my usual red and white for orange today as I stand in solidarity with the Indigenous Peoples of Canada. The recent identifying of innumerable unmarked children burial sites on residential school lands has been devastating. While I was very aware of the residential school system (from doing my own research on the matter as an adult years ago), it does not make the news any easier to come to terms with. As much as there are great things about my country, we have to face and accept that it is far from perfect and was built on centuries of racism and White Supremacy. It is time to take responsibility and acknowledge the racism on which our country was built. There is still so much work to do to actually reconcile our past and present. Our home IS native land.
