Mimi Takes Five - #346

ONE // Book Club - Week Two
This week's books were on First Nations. While both books are rather small in size and on the shorter side, the readings were still heavy ones. The fiction book presented the heavy subject matter in a slightly lighter tone. I enjoyed the structure of this book and how the author conveyed the different personalities in his creative writing. What appeared to be very separate stories at first glance ended up all connecting in the end. It really paints a picture of what life can be like living on a reserve in modern times. While on the surface, this book doesn't seemingly touch on some of the more serious themes, if one reads between the lines, they are very much present. That's why I would recommend reading Structures of Indifference. If you only read one non-fiction book about First Nations in Canada, let it be this one. It is by no means a light read as this book addresses the very difficult history of settler colonialism and its far-reaching impacts on the structure of today's society. This book made me pause and reflect often while challenging a lot of preconceived notions on the subject.

TWO // Downton - Final Goodbye
We finally have a release date for the final chapter of Downton Abbey. The third and final movie, titled The Grand Finale, will hit theatres September 12, 2025. I'm happy that Julian Fellowes has written the screenplay yet again and that the familiar cast will be reprising their recognizable roles. It will be a bitter-sweet ending to a much loved six-part series and two movie franchise. I was a fan of Downton Abbey from its very first season and remember watching the new episodes every Sunday night, without fail. Now I've already got something to look forward to during my favourite time of year! Fall 2025 is looking pretty good right about now!

THREE // Sunny Cardigan
I'm a big lover of solid-coloured cardigans and have a rainbow stack to prove it. While I do have yellow cardigans, I found myself missing a bright yellow option. I have a very light yellow and mustard yellow but had nothing in between those two hues. Seeing as yellow is a colour I love to wear, I'd been wanting to find a solid bright-yellow cardigan. Well, my wish was made into reality when I found this beauty at Old Navy. It's a cardigan style I like and they release it in a slew of new colours every season. Luckily, yellow was part of the spring offerings. I had gotten a lilac one last spring and a burnt orange one last fall. Looks like there's a colour I want every season... I can't wait to wear this cheerful topper!

FOUR // G&G Easter Bows
We are in for a real treat with the Easter collection from Grace & Grandeur Bow Company! The entire collection is comprised of fabric bows in two older silhouettes - the large Sandy and small Velma. We are lucky to get some fabric bow options because they are really special and sell fast. I have a few fabric bows and love them so much. They are easy to wear and feel  more casual than the fancier velvet or ribbon options. I'm mesmerized by the selection of pastel prints and florals - I seriously don't know if I could pick a favourite! I'm trying to think of my summer dresses to narrow down a selection... The secret of this collection is that there are three colourways that have the matching big and small bow options - perfect for family matching moments! Don't sleep on this collection, speaking from experience, the fabric bows sell quickly! Easter and spring are just around the corner, it won't be long until we get to clip these beauties in our hair! Use code GROUNDBREAKING for 20% your entire purchase, but act fast because the code expires today!

FIVE // Poutine Fest
With spring just around the corner, I'm looking forward to my favourite chip truck reopening for the season. Naturally, I checked their Instagram for any updates and found out they were going to be on campus this week for Poutine Fest! How serendipitous for me! I made sure get in line nice and early on Monday to get my poutine. I opted for my favourite - the Big Max and it totally hit the spot! I'll admit having to fight off the mid-afternoon slump but it was totally worth it. Now to wait for the official reopening to get our fix of fish n' chips!
