ONE // Brie Baker
I've been wanting a cute brie baker for a long time now. However, seeing as it's not an often-used baking dish, it always seemed to get pushed down the list. I've been tempted to get a pumpkin-shaped one many times and my husband always managed to convince me otherwise because it was too seasonal. He had a point. However, when I spotted this pinecone design brie baker, my husband couldn't say no. I actually prefer this design to any pumpkin one and it works from fall to spring, or even all year round, really. So we got it and I love it! I've already used it to make an apple crisp for two. It was the perfect sized dish and I have a feeling I'll be getting more use out of it than we originally thought.
TWO // The Paper
Well, the moment has finally arrived when the documentary crew that filmed at Dunder Mifflin has finally found a new workplace to document - enter new spin-off series The Paper! If you were a fan of The Office, look no further for your next awkward sitcom fix. Set in the same universe as the previous show, this new show carries over the style of our beloved Scranton and presents us with a new cast of office workers to follow in their day-to-day jobs at a newspaper. There is one familiar face among the new ones. Oscar has moved on and is now an accountant at the Toledo Truth Teller. In the first few episodes, we've gotten little nods to The Office, tying in the fact that this new show really is a continuation of The Office extended universe, if you will. The Paper is an immediate comfort show to me and is bringing me right back to the feelings I'd get watching The Office. It feels familiar and predictable in a way that is of utmost comfort right now.
THREE // Soup n' Biscuits
Another week, another fall soup! I've entered soup season with a bang and there's no turning back now. I've already decided my fall weekend routine would involve making a big pot of soup and baking some sort of carb. Last week, we kicked off the season with a carrot soup and sourdough bread. This week, it was a huge pot of cabbage soup with a side of cheese & onion biscuits. I love a fall-scented candle as much as the next fall girlie, but there is something to be said about walking into a home that has a pot of soup simmering on the stove and a fresh batch of biscuits warm from the oven. The epitome of comfort food! We're stocking our freezer with the leftovers and we are well on our way to having soup to last us throughout winter!
FOUR // Farewell, Downton
Another great series comes to an end. It's official, this was the last chapter of Downton Abbey. Naturally, I had to go see this one in theatres. I'd watched the series from the very beginning, before it became a phenomenon. I have fond memories of watching in every Sunday evening, the way we used to watch television prior to streaming services... It's been bitter-sweet knowing this third movie would be the end. I really enjoyed the film and thought there were many great tie-ins to the series as a whole. A lot of things have come full circle and it ends on a hopeful note. I found myself laughing quite a bit and admit to getting a little teary-eyed in the end. It's was classic Downton through and through. This was one of those classic series that is sure to endure.
FIVE // Pips Game
Anybody remember Wordle? Well, I've been loving playing the NYT games and am always excited when a new one gets added to the line-up! While I've tired a bit of Wordle, I do enjoy Connections and Strands a lot. This week, a new game was added - Pips! It's basically a domino game in which you have a specific board with conditions you have to follow. There is only one way every domino fits on the board. It involves a bit of math but lots of puzzle-solving skills. You get to play three different difficulties a day, which I love! You can start easy and work your way up as you get more comfortable with the concept or if you really want to challenge yourself. It's a fun little game if you have a few minutes to spare.
