Mimi Takes Five - #391

ONE // Outlander - The Final Season
In one month's time, the eighth and final season of Outlander will début on March 6, 2026. While I'm excited for this long-awaited release, it's very bitter-sweet. The Outlander series has been around for so many years, in part because of the droughtlander between season releases, but I suppose that made it last longer in the end. I've read every book of the series (9 published, the last book is not out yet) and know that they are cutting the TV series short. The story lines really started to diverge in season 6 and really took a turn in season 7. I'm not sure how I feel about the stories diverging. We don't even know how the book series will end so either the TV show will spoil it or just end in a different way. According to the trailer, Jamie is likely to find his end... Then, there's the whole Faith story line that is purely a show creation, so again, we'll see how this develops. The speculations about this particular thread have been rife! What makes this series ending less sad is that we have the second season of Blood of my Blood (the prequel) to look forward to, so the Outlander universe will still be around for a little while longer. Overall though, I am very much looking forward to watching this final season of what's been an epic show.

TWO // Funfetti Sourdough
My friends and family are always sending me sourdough content now. It's great! That being said, I've been getting more and more inspired to branch off and try different sourdough flavours. One thing I saw a few times was adding sprinkles to a sourdough to make it a funfetti loaf. I found this idea accessible so added sprinkles to my grocery list. Last weekend, I decided to just go for it and added in sprinkles during my stretch and folds. I did everything else the way I normally do and was so pleased when my bread baked beautifully! I had gone full whimsy with a spiral score and think even that detail turned out. The real test was the cutting. To my utter delight, the inside was filled with colourful sprinkle spots in a great distribution pattern. I couldn't have hoped for a better-looking loaf! I later saw that adding a bit of vanilla and almond extracts to the dough would give it a sweeter, cake-like flavour. I liked it with just sprinkles because it tastes like a regular loaf, but looks way more fun without the added sweetness. I fear this is opening up a real can of worms for me going forward...

THREE // Plum Crossbody
My mom got me another cross-body bag this past Christmas. She got me a fluffy one a few years back and I've really loved it for travelling, running errands or anytime I need to be hands-free. It really is very practical with its multiple pockets and sturdy cross-body strap. This year's version is a more square shape and in the most beautiful shade of deep plum. I'm partial to purple, so this colour is it for me! Other than the usual multiple internal pocket options, this bag has a front external pocket lined with soft fabric to keep your hands warm. It's almost like a bag with a built-in muff. I used to have a fur muff as a kid and always thought it was a superior winter accessory. Well, this bag is a modernized version of a muff, but even more practical!

FOUR // Team Canada Merch
The winter Olympics are here! While I'm not the biggest follower of sports, I do enjoy watching some sports and the winter Olympics hold my attention a bit more. Now one thing that definitely gets my attention is fashion - specifically the Team Canada merch! I always look forward to seeing the designs and maybe getting a little piece for myself. I mean, who didn't have the red Hudson's Bay knit mittens with the maple leaf on the palms? I still have and wear those 2010 mittens! Like for the most recent summer Olympics, the team Canada merch was done by Lululemon this year. I love the moody colour palette of deep brown/burgundy against the usual bright red. I'm even not minding the Rip Tide green shade. I'm loving the puff mittens with the string (how's that for a blast from your childhood?), I love the two-toned puff jacket, the collectible pins, the jacquard sweater and most of all the iconic maple leaf quilted wrap vest! I mean that piece is a statement and I am here for it! Go Team Canada!

FIVE // The Devil Wears Prada 2
Lots of watchable content dropping soon, including the second Devil Wears Prada. I've been a huge fan of the first movie (and of Anne Hathaway in general) so I've seen it more times than I can count. And it's definitely a cult favourite! Being a fashion girly, I lived for the various outfits featured in the movie and it came out around the time of Ugly Betty and while fashion magazines were still big. I also liked that it was a predominantly female cast with a classic aughts transformation/makeover arc. This flowed nicely with the Princess Diaries personal Anne was known for at the time. All in all it was a movie that provided us with a behind the scenes look at an industry that so many romanticized. I'm of two minds when it comes to the sequel. Part of me is looking forward to delving back into that world and reuniting with the brilliant cast, but I'm also a bit worried a sequel won't live up to the hype because the first movie was such a resounding success. I'm tempering my expectations because I truly want to enjoy this movie and I do have a glimmer of hope it will rise to the occasion. Let's just say this movie has big shoes to fill.
