Mimi Takes Five - #393

ONE // Vintage Mittens
The winter Olympics hit differently. I find myself getting nostalgic and it very likely has something to do with the Vancouver 2010 games. Those games were very much on my radar for months in the run-up and Canadian pride was contagious at the time. I also think the gear created by Hudson's Bay that year was the most memorable and timeless. Case in point, everyone had a pair of the red knit mittens with white maple leaf on the palm. I've been wearing mine since then, so 16 winters. I just naturally hang onto pieces I love, so it's not surprising I still have these mittens. Well, I dug them out again and have been wearing them a lot these last two weeks. I'm a sucker for good merch!

TWO // Pins
Speaking of mittens... During the 2024 summer Olympics, my husband had surprised me with a set of enamel pins commemorating those games. Well, Lululemon released more pins for the 2026 winter games so I had to go check them out. My local store only had one set, but it was the one I wanted - the mittens! I mean, this pack gives your three pins for the price of two and I love wearing my enamel pins in clusters so the pair of mittens lends itself to that perfectly. Is there anything more iconic than red Olympic mittens? Sure the design depicts this year's iteration, but in my heart, I still think of the knitted ones from 2010.

THREE // Outlandishly Hot Pod
Back in August, when Blood of my Blood started playing, I was desperate to talk about the show! Sadly, nobody I knew was also watching it so I resorted to looking for a podcast, as one does. Luckily for me, two Australian besties, Nikki and Lisa, decided to do a recap podcast. It's seriously the best show I listen to these days! They are even more obsessed with the Outlander universe and their conversations are unhinged - in the best way! It really feels like gabbing about the show with my girl friends and running through various theories and speculations. It's just the type of content I needed to accompany my BomB viewing. Once that was over, they just decided to do a full rewatch of the original Outlander series while we await the drop of the final series. It's actually been a great refresher before delving into season 8 but best of all, it's keeping that Outlander flame burning!

FOUR // Sweater Dress
I'd been eyeing this sweater dress since before Christmas and decided to treat myself for my birthday the next month when it went on sale. I love a sweater dress for the same reasons I love any other dress - it's the ultimate one-and-done piece. Having a handful of classic dresses to choose from for quick outfits that look put together is a must. The winter version is a sweater dress. Dare I say they are even better than other dresses because the comfort level is unmatched. It's the coziness of a sweater combined with the comfort and freedom of movement of a dress. I mean, it's the ultimate winter wardrobe option. This midi evergreen one is such a timeless silhouette. The ribbed finish gives it a perfect fit without being too just and the button details on the sleeve are simple elegance. I also really love the waist detail because it's instantly flattering. I'm seriously happy I ended up getting this dress; it's literally perfect!

FIVE // Farewell G&G...
I got devastating news this week, my most favourite creator of hair bows will be transitioning to only wholesale. Grace & Grandeur has been my ride or die these past few years and 99% of my hair bow collection are Sarah creations. I had found the holy grail of hair bow suppliers, seriously. I wear a hair bow almost on the daily. I really don't know what I used to do with my hair before 2021. My reflex is to almost always add a hair bow to my hair for the day, no matter how I style it. It's really become my signature style. Now, I'm the first to admit that my collection is pretty complete, I'm the girl who has every hair bow. But I can't help but be saddened by the news. This is your sign to snag a last-minute hair bow while they are on clearance before your window closes.
