Mimi Takes Five - #427

ONE // The Pumpkin Spice Cafe
It was just a matter of time before I got my hands on this popular book. It was all the rage on social media last year and it had been on my radar as a fall read. I wanted something seasonal after I finished the Bridgerton series and this light read was just the thing. I would say it was overhyped for what it was. I enjoyed the book, other than being set in the fall and the café being called pumpkin spice, it was not very autumnal. There was a hint at some mysterious plot lines but they just fell flat and were resolved in very anticlimactic ways. It was a light, easy read and I enjoyed it for what it was. But, honestly, I was a tad disappointed in this one...

TWO // Fall Leaf Cookies
I'd been wanting to try to make marbled fall leaf sugar cookies and decided Thanksgiving weekend would be the perfect time as my little niece could help. She loves baking, so I turned it into some quality time with her. I whipped up a batch of my go-to sugar cookies. I divided the dough into four bowls and proceeded to colour them red, yellow, orange and brown. This took a bit of time and lots of elbow grease. I then would take alternating blobs and recombine the entire dough. I froze this colourful dough and brought it with me. That way, all that was left was the fun part. Rolling it out and using a leaf-shaped cookie cutter was all it took. I will say that the more you roll out the dough, the more the colours blend into brown. All good, it was fun and lots of them turned out perfectly marbled. I would make these again!

THREE // Pumpkin Cardigan
This cardigan is literally what my fall sweater dreams are made of! The style, the colour palette and the Disney design are perfection! I'm a sucker for a good Fair Isle pattern and this sweater hits all the right notes of spooky and autumnal. The Mickey pumpkins are subtle enough but to those who know, it's peak Disney seasonal style. I also have a soft spot for burgundy and the orange, green, black and white are simply ideal fall colours. I find the burgundy has deep brown undertones so that means it'll pair perfectly with those shades too. The ideal October layering piece. It's perfect, no notes!

FOUR // Spicy Manicure
I've been sporadically painting my nails lately but thought a seasonal manicure was in order. I really pampered myself and did the full process. Trim and shape nails with a file, use cuticle oil to tidy them up and moisturize my hands to prep for the polish. I then decided to use two colours, a deep red and a glittery brown. I then painted a few layers on each nail, opting for only one on each hand for the brown colour. I finished with a clear coat and am so very pleased with the result! I forget how much I like simple things like a fresh manicure. I just need to treat myself and take a bit of time to paint my nails. If you've not given yourself a manicure lately, this is your sign to do so!

FIVE // Barn Quilt
My mom has been obsessed with painting barn quilts ever since she took a workshop this summer. She lives on a farm, so the idea of a barn quilt is perfectly suited to her setting and décor vibe. She's also been a lifelong quilter so is no stranger to quilt patterns and designs. She got herself plenty of boards and loaded up on paints to make a bunch. She wants to have some for every season and I can't blame her. They are beautiful! While I was up for Thanksgiving, she set me up with a smaller board. I wanted to make a fall maple leaf. I really enjoyed the creative process of this craft and am very pleased with how it turned out. It will fit right in with my autumnal décor! I can see why my mom is now obsessed! I don't need a new hobby, but if I was looking for one, this would a contender.
