Last week, I attended a ceremony on Truth and Reconciliation Day. I've been attending this event for the past three years and I think it provides me with the opportunity to keep learning and listening to communities affected by residential schools. It keeps things top of mind because I don't want to lose sight of the process. Reconciliation will be a journey and it won't happen without accepting the truth and working together towards healing. The names of children who never made it home were read out loud throughout the ceremony and it was so tangible and heartbreaking. Giving those innocent children a voice today will sadly not bring them back but they are worth remembering because they mattered. Every child matters, and for that reason, I wear my orange shirt proudly and hold space for the voices that for too long have been silenced.
