The Slice is Right

Another bright skirt for summer! I decided to channel the humble watermelon today! To me, watermelons are the official fruit of summer! Nothing beats biting into the sweet pink flesh on a hot summer's day. Or having a seed-spitting competition with one's brothers... Forget the seedless kind, the seeds is where the fun is at! A fruit that is both nutritious and can simultaneously be turned into a game? What is there not to love? For today's look, I found the shade of green of the skirt reminded me of that of watermelon rinds, so that was my kicking off point. It was then a no-brainer to add my watermelon-slice top. To finish things off, I added a pink belt and green fringed sandals. I also added a simple triangle necklace because I thought it echoed the shape of the fruit slices on my top! When looking for new colour combinations, look no further than nature. Pink and green go harmoniously with one another. The watermelon is a prime example!

TBT - Popping Print

More stripes!!! I chose to brighten up my simple striped dress by adding a chartreuse cardigan and fuchsia accents! Throw on a blingy statement necklace and you are sure to make some heads turn! This look is fun, spunky and, best of all, comfy! For some reason, I fell I would be right at home on Coney Island in this outfit! I'm not bit on carnival rides (I'm prone to motion sickness), but I do enjoy carnival food and games! The only thing missing to this look is a cotton candy in my hand!

Dashing Swirls

When the sun is shining, I wear skirts! Nothing is as fun or freeing as wearing skirts/dresses. For today's outfit, I decided to wear my reversible skirt on the black side and pair it with a white top with a black swirl motif. I love the contrast of the symmetrical dash-print of the skirt and the more artistic circular pattern of the top. I feel these two pieces play well off one another as the contrast is dual-sided. On the one hand you have the colour contrast and on the other, you have the geometric contrast. I don't think these pieces would work as well if it weren't for the colour similarities. If both the colours and prints were different, I'm not sure all the elements would be cohesive. By sticking with black and white, I was able to let a little bit loose with the patterns. However, one way I chose to infuse colour was by adding bright jewelry. The green earrings, the coral bracelet and the gold headband each contribute a little bit to the outfit as a whole. Sometimes, only hints of colour are needed to achieve a certain look.

Striping Watercolour

A little print-mixing sure brightens the mood on a Monday morning! I decided to wear a striped top with my cool-tone floral watercolour pants. I think it gives these more polished pants a fun twist! By adding the light-washed jean jacket, I gave the look a more casual vibe. Just because a garment is well tailored and lends itself to a more professional setting, it does not mean it can't be worn casually. Try mixing your structured pieces with denim and prints to get more wear out of them!

The Sunset Maxi

I love a good maxi dress! They are great options for those hot summer days. I absolutely adore the bold print and loose fit of this one. I decided to belt it at the waist, but I would also easily wear it without a belt. The plans for the day included boating, shopping, swimming and picnicking. I figured I could wear my swimsuit under the dress and it made for an easy-peasy outfit change when came the time for swimming. It was a very hot and muggy day, so I was quite pleased with my choice of a loose-fitting breezy dress. There is nothing worse than feeling icky and having your clothes stick to you when the temperatures are sky high. Maxis are your friends!

Cute Coord

It's a hot one today! This is our first heat wave of the summer! I will not complain, because I have not yet forgotten the winter that barely finished... It was therefore the perfect time to bust out the coordinated top and shorts set! I am so happy these made a comeback recently. Who remembers dressing in coordinated sets when they were little? I sure do, and I remember them being some of my favourite outfits. The simplicity of knowing that the two piece match harmoniously is what took the guessing out of getting dressed. Turns out, that is still on the plus side now that I'm an adult. Some days, you just want to get dressed and not have to think about it! Besides, there are so many better things to do during the summer than worry about what to wear!

La Belle Province

My dad is a proud Quebecker and never misses an opportunity to remind us of this pride! On every family trip, when we passed the Quebec border, he would yell out: "Québec, la belle province!", which is the province's nickname. He would also wear plenty of graphic t-shirts sporting the province's blue and white fleur de lys flag. Today's outfit made me remember those silly t-shirts he used to wear because I combined my Québec-blue dress with my gold fleur de lys earrings. I'm sure this outfit will make him beam with pride as, it turns out, his daughter is also proud of her heritage! I simply choose to demonstrate it in a slightly more subtle manner. Je t'aime papa!

Breezy Like Sunday Morning

Summer dressing can be a breeze sometimes! I love wearing dresses and rompers/jumpsuits for their quick and easy factor. They're a one-piece outfit that makes dressing as simple as colour by numbers! Start with the base, add shoes, jewelry and maybe a jacket. That's it! Easy, peasy! I did just that for today's look. I started with a pastel high-low dress, added some nude cork wedges, accessories and a light cardigan. I made sure all of my elements coordinated well with one another and called it a day! Try approaching your outfit building in small steps, adding one element at a time.

TBT - Teal Next Time

It's now short weather, but I decided to throw it back to a season during which the weather was not so short appropriate. As you have probably gathered by now, the cold does not stop me from wearing shorts. I simply pair them with tights and get on my way. Today's look is simple, yet dressed up. I paired my black brocade shorts with black tights and shoes. I then added a turquoise blouse and belt for an effortlessly chic outfit. Sticking to only two colours keeps things simple and streamlines the look. The contrast is just enough to give interest, without being over the top. Black will always be a great base layer!

Vest Case Scenario

When styling today's outfit, I wanted to make sure the flutter sleeves were on full display. For that reason, I chose to wear my sleeveless blazer, as opposed to one with sleeves. This way, I get the double effect of the layering without hiding a key feature. Since the sleeves are light and airy, I wanted to stick to the whimsical and opted for polka dot pants! I added double pearl earrings, a silver pendant and my white d'Orsay flats to complete the look. This is a great summer look for those slightly cooler or overcast days. I challenge you to try layering without compromising cute details. It's not always obvious, but when you find a way to make it work, it's worth the effort!
