Mimi Takes Five - #105

ONE // Second Wedding Anniversary
Tomorrow is our second wedding anniversary, officially! Boy, have things really changed in a couple years. I never would have thought we'd be living through a pandemic at the moment. Although, looking back, we still could have gotten married in the current situation as we did it with no more than five people at city hall. I know that a lot of people are choosing this option in the current circumstances and now, more than ever, people are focusing on what is truly at the heart of getting married: the love between two people who want to share their lives. We already understood what was at the core of getting married and chose to strip it back to the basics. It was one of the most wonderful days of my life and I am so happy we decided to do things our way and have that private moment to cherish between the two of us. Since cotton is the traditional anniversary gift, I got my husband this sweet pillow cover for his Man Cave with a cute saying. He sports a unique statement beard, so I thought it was very fitting!

TWO // Cherry & Apple Blossoms
I have to say, one of the things I look forward to the most come spring is the cherry and apple blossoms! To me, they are the most beautiful trees and they really brighten my surroundings. I've been going for regular walks and I've noticed so many of them in my neighborhood! It almost feels like walking down Cherry Tree Lane in Mary Poppins! It's truly magical! I think part of the allure of these trees is that they are so ephemeral. I'd been watching the buds closely and new they would bloom soon. Well, they were at their most beautiful last Sunday and the petals have been steadily falling all week. I've really enjoyed admiring these beauties on my daily walks and am already missing the beautiful blush blooms all around me. Till next year, pretty blossoms!

THREE // Swing
I finally put up my swing for the season! I think this is my ultimate favourite thing about our backyard. I've had a passion for swings since my childhood and I was adamant that I wanted to hang one from our pergola. When we redid the backyard, my dream came true! My husband fashioned me an old-school wooden swing with thick ropes. I absolutely love it and go out for a little swing all the time. Swinging makes me feel like a kid again and I get so giddy! It's especially great this year, what with parks and gatherings being out of bounds. All I have to do is go to my backyard!

FOUR // Morning Oatmeal
I have been on an oatmeal kick lately and have been making it every morning! I forgot just how much I love oatmeal. To save time, I make my own little mixes in Tupperware and store them in the pantry. I mix quick oats, flax seeds, chia seeds and a bit of brown sugar. On the morning of, I just add hot water, a dash of milk and whatever fruit I have on hand. If I'm feeling really fancy, I'll even add a dash of cinnamon, a drizzle of honey, some shredded coconut, raisins or dried cranberries. So, I basically start with my base mix and get creative from there. I've been finding it comforting to eat a warm bowl of yumminess first thing in the morning.

FIVE // The Big Flower Fight
Good old Netflix delivers yet again. I discovered this show the other day and I'm hooked! If you are familiar with the many cooking competition shows out there, then you'll get the format of this show. It's sort of like The Great British Baking Show, but with flowers. The teams of two have weekly floral challenges that vary in scope and difficulty. I've always wondered just how those massive plant-based sculptures were made, so this show is quite enlightening. Also, I appreciate that I don't get the urge eating everything in the fridge while watching this show like I do when watching cooking shows... There's a rule in our house that we can only watch cooking shows during meal times. If you like this type of show, but rather not eat yourself out of house and home, then this one's for you!
