Mimi Takes Five - #126

ONE // Check Coat
Plaid coats are my weakness. I especially love winter coats that stand out from the bunch and prints are a great way of doing so. I always gravitate towards plaids and checks because, to me, they are timeless and classic. This new taupe and beige option is a great structural piece to throw over a lounging look and appear put together to run errands. We are all living our best athleisure lives at the moment, but winter presents an opportunity to look instantly more polished with a great statement coat. It's the best of both worlds really, you get to stay safe at home in comfortable clothing, yet can actually make use of the best part of your winter wardrobe. Winter coats will be the true clothing heroes of the pandemic this winter. So dust off your best cold-weather outerwear because winter's coming!

TWO // The Queen's Gambit
I started watching this new series on Netflix: The Queen's Gambit. I tend to gravitate towards old-timey settings and this story starts in the 1950 with a girl in an orphanage (hello Anne of Green Gables parallel here!) This young heroine discovers she is extremely skilled at playing chess and we then follow her journey to stardom while she grapples with addiction. Three episodes in and I'm really enjoying it so far!

THREE // Taupe OTK Boots
Sticking with the same colour theme today, I present my taupe OTK boots! I have a few pairs of heeled over-the-knee boots, but most are very high. While I do love them, some days I want the look but with a little more comfort. Enter the flats OTK boot. I've had a pair of flat burgundy ones and wear them a lot, so I snagged this more neutral pair on sale at the beginning of the season. I was hoping they would be a tad more brown (as pictured online), but don't mind the taupe shade. I'm hesitating on potentially dying them darker. I'll let you all know if I ever do!

FOUR // New Batch of Masks
My mom is really pulling through with all her mask making as of late and I was lucky enough to receive a package full of new seasonal options. Could she be any cuter? She's got me covered (literally) for Halloween, Remembrance Day, Christmas and even winter. You bet I will be wearing that Frozen mask proudly! Haha! She even went as far as making me an embroidered initial mask. I mean, my mom is clearly the best!

FIVE //Monster Cookies
My baking adventures continue this week with a big batch of Monster cookies! You know, the it's-every-kind-of-cookie in one? I find they are a cross of peanut butter, oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies. The recipe calls for M&Ms, but I didn't have any so I improvised with chocolate chips, Skor bits and crushed walnuts. They turned out so yummy! I was making these huge cookies, thinking it would use up the batter, but I still ended up with a huge batch of 36 big Monster cookies! Next time, I'll be sure to halve the recipe!
