We had our first official BBQ of the season last Friday and it was glorious! We got enough warm weather to melt all the snow off our deck, giving access to the BBQ. We got some fresh sausages and invited my aunt over to officially ring in BBQ season. Boy, was it delicious! There is nothing quite like that smokey BBQ flavour, is there? And I've missed it! I get weak in the knees just thinking about it. I'm a particularly huge fan of grilled vegetables. Give me all the BBQ veggies! While it was still too cold to actually spend any time outdoors while the food was on the grill (my husband, the chef, braved the cold for us), my aunt and I caught up on a few episodes of And Just Like That. I had made a cherry-blueberry cobbler for dessert and it rounded up the meal perfectly. It was a spontaneous little social event that ended up being just what the doctor ordered. There's nothing like the return of beautiful weather to put a spring back your step!
TWO // Royal Style
As many of you may be aware, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are on a royal tour of the Caribbean to celebrate Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee. While there has been a lot of political chatter surrounding this particular tour, I'm still very much enjoying the sartorial show that is on full display. I'm here for the fashion! One of the standout looks for me was the Tory Burch printed smocked dress worn by the DoC in Belize. I mean, this entire look embodies my personal summer style to a T. I'm always down for a printed smocked midi dress, worn with statement earrings, a straw bag and raffia espadrilles. It's my literal summer aesthetic! I could pull up dozens of past outfits that would perfectly illustrate that formula... Not sure who's influencing who here, but it's a royal style knockout!
THREE // Black Rubber Boots
Spring usually means one thing, lots of rain and puddles! Not to worry, I'm quite prepared for the soggy season. While I already have an arsenal or rain coats, umbrellas and rubber boots, another pair can't hurt, right? I love my tall Hunter boots, but sometimes, I want a shorter style. I have some yellow ankle boots that get a lot of wear. Sadly, the bright hue doesn't always pair well with what I'm wearing. I try to make it work as much as possible, but I'd been wanting a similar black pair to make things easier. The black is just more inconspicuous and goes with everything. Well, I got lucky last fall when I happened upon this Nautica pair at Winners. They are perfect and fill in the gap I had in my wardrobe. Now I'm (even more) ready to splash around outside!
FOUR // Derry Girls - Season 3
Derry Girls was one of the many shows I stumbled upon last year and was instantly hooked! It follows a group of teens in the 1990s, set in Derry, Northern Ireland. It's a comedy set against the backdrop of the final years of the Troubles. I just can't get enough of the 90s nostalgia from the fashion to the soundtrack! The acting is also phenomenal and each character is endearing in their own way. It's actually a great ensemble cast! The third and final season is set to air in early summer 2022. In the meantime, enjoy the trailer! It's already got me in a fit of giggles! I just might also rewatch the first two seasons, currently on Netflix...
FIVE // Sassy Notepad
My favourite little creator, Nutmeg and Arlo, makes the cutest notepads! I can't get enough of her colourful and sassy stylings. I started out collecting her adorable enamel pins (and still am) but she also creates an array of fun washi tapes, stickers, postcards, suncatchers, keychains and even socks. I simply couldn't resist this notepad because I am a list-making person. My entire life revolves around to-do lists so this specific design, with little boxes to check off, really spoke to me. Also, the title makes me chuckle. We've all got that one do-to list that never quite seems to get done, am I right? This is THE notepad to use to write up that list that is more likely a suggestion than a requirement, ha ha! Just keeping it real! Also, I cannot wait for the launch of her new products next week because it's all the bee-themed things that I absolutely need in my life!
