Mimi Takes Five - #310

ONE // Puppy Does Niagara
We had a family event in Niagara-on-the-Lake last weekend. As the event was in the afternoon, we had a full morning to ourselves. We weren't planning on seeing the falls, but when a cousin suggested we go, we were in! Niagara Falls is so close it made sense. We walked along the Trans-Canada Trail for the classic view of the Horseshoe Falls. It was a warm, sunny day so the mist from the Falls was a welcome respite. We then decided to be very adventurous and opted to do the Journey Behind the Falls which takes you through the underground tunnels to see the falls from behind the veil. There's also an external platform you can step out on and be right next to this wonder! It was a great (and quick) way to experience the falls up close. We even had the puppy in tow through the entire journey! I'm not quite sure what she made of it, but she was taking it all in! This was probably her biggest adventure to date and was completely spontaneous.

TWO // KJP Fall Sweaters
There's no turning back now, autumn is coming at warp speed! And I'm thrilled about it! One of the tell-tale signs that fall is truly around the corner is when KJP releases their fall sweater line-up. If you're a fall fanatic, you've definitely seen and probably longed to own one of these knit creations. While I like the ModCloth and Unique Vintage fall offerings, nothing compares to KJP in terms of design, quality and just overall autumn vibes. I own three, so can attest to each of these characteristics. These are the sweaters I look forward to wearing the most when fall comes around. To me, they are wardrobe staples that I will hang onto forever. At first, only designs from past seasons were available, but as I suspected, some newer ones keep popping up every few days. I limit myself to only getting one sweater a year, so need to choose wisely.

THREE // Wizarding Archive
Alright, anybody remembers Pottermore? The Potter site before it changed to the Wizarding World site? I do, and it was the most amazing thing. I remember the random snippets we'd get written by the author about all kinds of world-building components. I lived for those extra little snippets of information! Well, it turns out these past writings are being turned into ebooks and an audiobook! I am thrilled we'll get to explore those writings once more. The English release will be on August 29, 2024 (just in time for Back to Hogwarts!) and I'll be on the lookout. While the books will present the stories and anecdotes in different formats and with added extras, the original writings can still all be found here. This is such a neat way to re-release some lesser-known content to fans, I'm all for it!

FOUR // T-shirts
For some reason, I tend to overlook basic t-shirts in my wardrobe. Maybe it's because they are basics and not the most exciting to shop for. However, I took advantage of a recent Old Navy sale on t-shirts to get a few. I needed a basic navy option, so got a V-neck. I then liked this twist-front white t-shirt option as it's a bit more elevated, yet still a good basic. I finally got this light blue striped one because your girl can't resist a striped top. Hopefully, this lot will fill a slight gap in my closet and will make outfit styling a bit easier with some solid basic options.

FIVE // Beyond the Norm Podcast
Full disclosure, I'm not one for super creepy/horror stuff. However, some creepy stories do get my attention. I guess I'm not so much into watching horror movies and getting scared or having my heart race, but I do like hearing stories supernatural in nature or exploring inexplicable phenomenons. If you are like me, and enjoy (that might not be the right word) mysteries and true crime-like stories, then this podcast might be for you. Its hosts are Christi Lukasiak (yes, from Dance Moms) and her good friend Stephen Maynard. They discuss all manner of dark, bizarre and mysterious stories. I'd say to proceed with caution as some of the content can be graphically descriptive. However, the hosts keep the vibes light and down to earth even though a lot of content is beyond the norm. The one story that stayed with me long after I'd listened to the episode was that of the Corpse Bride. It's most definitely not the Tim Burton animation, that's for sure! With spooky season around the corner, it could be a good podcast to get your supernatural senses tingling.
