Vacation - Travel Look

After the year I've had, I am in dire need of a vacation! We usually escape the cold of winter for a week every year and decided we were not going to skip the trip this year, even if it meant leaving a month or so later than we normally do. Seeing as building projects never seem to be on schedule, it was still cutting it close with the delayed trip time-frame. Thankfully, the building was advanced enough to allow us to move in a couple days before leaving. We literally moved our (very limited) stuff, packed a suitcase and took off. I'll deal with the settling-in part later. Now that we are at least in the house, I can fully relax and unwind for the first time since August. I always try to be systematic and practical with my travel outfits and this time is no different. Early plain travel means I need comfortable layers to transition well from a cold climate to a warm one. I kept it simple with a super soft graphic tee, a bralette, a knit cardigan, stretchy jeans, a scarf and running shoes. The monochromatic palette fit the bill. I didn't have to overthink it, seeing as I was pressed for time in the outfit-planning department this time around. Plus the digging through endless boxes of clothing to try and find the pieces I was looking for ate into my already very limited time.

On The Road Again

Since all good things come to an end, it was time to go home. Another day spent in the car (after a couple late nights) definitely called for PJ-like clothes! I had packed a pair of black floral soft pants and a salmon-coloured slouchy sweater. I stuck with my trusty metallic plimsolls to complete the look. I was so proud of myself for only bringing one pair of shoes on this trip! This took a bit more effort in the planning phase. But I was happy to have flat shoes that were also interesting. What are your go-to travelling clothes?

P.S. Taking outfit pics when you are running on very little sleep makes for a lot of giggling!

Mimi and the Multi-Colour Travelling Cloak

Air travel between different climates can be very challenging wardrobe wise. When I know I will be travelling to a different climate than the one I'm leaving, I put a lot of thought into my outfit. A good travelling outfit must be comfortable, practical and versatile. Seems easy enough, but the really challenging part is still managing to look presentable or even stylish. A great basic to keep in mind is leggings. I hardly ever don't wear leggings while travelling. They allow me to move freely and are not constricting in any way, making sitting for long periods of time bearable. I then opt for layers. In today's look I am wearing a camisole (the lace detailing gives me bonus style points), a 3/4 sleeve t-shirt and a cardigan. These layers are practical and not too bulky. When I take off the cardigan, the layer underneath it still works. Wearing winter boots isn't always the best option. I chose booties with calf-socks for extra warmth without the bulk. Finally, I opted to wear my plaid cape. The cape is warm enough to get you from the car to inside the terminal, while doubling up as a blanket during the flight. The beauty about this one is that it's reversible. I tend to wear the same outfit to and from, seeing as packing two winter outfits would be overkill and that this outfit took so much planning! I figure I will simply wear the cape on the reverse side for the trip back and no one will even notice I'm wearing the same outfit! Tricks of the trade!

TBT - Travel Comfort

Air travel can be a hassle at the best of times. However, one thing that is in your control is your clothing! I chose to dress in comfortable layers. I do not travel by plane that often. It is usually a yearly occurrence to go down South. Seeing as I am usually traveling from a colder to a warmer climate, layers are an absolute must! Today, I am wearing leggings, a long sleeve t-shirt (with a camisole underneath), a boyfriend cardigan, a scarf and over the knee boots (they have a side zipper, so are easy to take off at security). I also keep gloves and earmuffs in my carry on just in case! The scarf and cardigan are great for bundling up if the plane air is a bit chilly, or can also be used as a blanket or pillow. I also travel with a pair of comfy socks so I can kick off my footwear during the flight. Travelling outfits usually require a bit more planning because they have to be very practical and comfortable. If they also happen to be stylish: bonus!
