Mimi Takes Five - #312

ONE // Backyard Olympics
I got the brilliant idea to set up our projector outside to watch the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics! The weather was perfect and we planned on watching a replay as the live was mid-afternoon and I was still working. Little did I know the ceremony itself would be held outdoors rather than in a stadium! It just felt so right to also be watching it outdoors. We set up our chairs with plenty of cushions and blankets along with our tray of snacks. It was a long ceremony (even when fast-forwarding through the commercials!) I'd heard rumours of Céline performing and, of course, it was the very last thing. While I enjoyed the most part of the ceremony, my favourite was the last 10 minutes. I audibly gasped when the hot air balloon cauldron literally started to rise only for the first notes of Céline's powerfully emotional rendition of l'Hymne à l'amour make me well up. It was the most perfect closing number. A legend singing on an architectural marvel.

TWO // Twine
I forgot I got this ball of twine with stand last year and recently came across it in my craft cupboard. I had found it at Homesense and thought it would be perfect for crafting and gift wrapping, but forgot all about it around the holidays... I'll have to make a point of using it this year, ha ha! While the ball of twine is useful, I was more interested in spool holder as I think it will be very practical to use with all manner of ribbon and string. Not that I have many gifts to wrap at a time, but I do think the spool would make things a bit easier to manage and prevent the ribbon unfurling on the floor. I even suspect I'll be able to fit a few thinner rolls of ribbon on the spool. Either way, it was a great find and I just need to remember to use it when the time comes.

THREE // Hair Pin
I've been wearing hair pins and hair sticks to put my hair up lately and I'm loving the effortless look. I used to do this trick with a pencil back in the day when I didn't have a hair elastic. I've scratched my head with my fair share of pencils, ha ha! Hair pins and sticks are much more elevated tools to achieve the same look. Once you figure out the right way to twist and pin your hair, it's literally achievable in seconds. I often wear my hair up when it's warm, so this (along with hair claws) is a great hair tool to have with you. It's much classier than wearing a hair elastic on your wrist... Just saying.

FOUR // Green Passionfruit
I like a green tea. However, over the years, I've come to realize that I prefer a fruity green tea or a minty green tea. I don't love straight up green tea, I find the fruit or mint help cut the bitterness. I've had some favourites from David's Tea over the years that include Green Passionfruit and Kiwi's Big Adventure. Sadly, both were discontinued for a little while now, but recently Green Passionfruit was brought back! I was thrilled to learn this and immediately went to my local store to stock up. The smell really brought me back and I'm so happy to have a favourite in my cupboard again.

FIVE // Flat Espadrilles
It's no secret that I'm a fan of espadrilles. While I do prefer the wedge options with ankle ties, I also like a flat option. I've had these beige striped ones for years now and was recently reminded I had them. I've worn them a few times this summer and they truly feel like slippers! Beyond the comfort and style points, this footwear option also gives off that effortless summer vibe. They would be a perfect option for travelling and exploring new places, especially if the terrain is uneven like cobble stones. Flat espadrilles can be worn with anything from dresses, to shorts and cropped denim. A neutral colourway would literally go with anything. They are seriously an underrated MVP in my closet. I need to make a point of wearing them more often!
