Mimi Takes Five - #316

ONE // Turkish Towels
We decided to get some new beach towels on a whim before going on vacation. We were camping for a week and then visiting family, so needed to pack light and strategically. We love our big, fluffy beach towels but they do take up space and don't dry very quickly. Seeing as we'd be using them daily and sometimes twice a day, we wanted a quick-dry option. My husband had seen Turkish towels and wanted to give them a try. They are just as large as our regular beach towels but are thinner so take up a lot less space. They also dry quickly, which is a plus when camping. We couldn't decide which ones to get, so we got a couple from two different vendors. We ended up keeping all four towels! We had a set for the beach and a set for showering. All four took up less space than two regular beach towels. It really was a great idea after all!

TWO // Back to Hogwarts
September first falls on a Sunday this year, so Back to Hogwarts is hitting a bit differently... That might also be due to the fact that the format is changing this year. No more in-person events at Kings Cross. While I understand the event got exponentially bigger over the years and was causing issues at the station, it's still bitter sweet when a tradition changes. However, there are new ways to celebrate this year. The biggest one is that all eight movies will be back in cinemas for the occasion. Be sure to check your local theatre to see which ones are playing when. When will you ever get the chance to see a Potter movie in cinemas again? Over and above that, various fan celebrations will be held across the globe. Find out more here. Finally, you can always catch the countdown and follow along the celebrations on the Harry Potter YouTube channel. Happy Back-to-Hogwarts day!

THREE // Navy Blazer
Nothing says back to school quite like a navy blazer, am I right? It's the epitome of preppy style and a school uniform classic. I just had to snag this double-breasted one from H&M. Truth be told, I had a great one from Banana Republic but it got damaged in the fire and I had been on the lookout for a replacement blazer ever since. I really wanted a navy double-breasted option with gold buttons. I think I've found it! I'm loving the slightly oversized cut of this one and think it will be a great layering piece this fall! I'm so happy I finally found one I liked!

FOUR // G&G Fall Bows
Next up on my list of vendors to watch for fall goodies is Grace & Grandeur. I got my first G&G bows in 2021 and I have never looked back. They are the best in terms of style and quality! At this point, I think I have almost every colour possible, yet I still await the fall collection with bated breath. Well, it's here! Sarah did a live this week revealing the new line up and each bow is as swoon-worthy as the next. I love the richness of the Merlot and Hazelnut matte satin, so luxurious! The blush, while unexpected, is also a great shade for fall. I was a huge fan of the brown/pink combo as a teen... The velvet offerings will come in Vintage Gold and Sand. I started off with the velvet bows, so they hold a special place in my heart. Go pre-order your fall bows now!

FIVE // Wear Whatever the F You Want
Never have I been more excited for a show! Stacy and Clinton are joining forces for another show! I spent countless hours watching What Not to Wear on TLC in the early 2000s and constantly remember this show, you could say it's a Roman Empire of sorts for me, ha ha! Their approach to dressing for your shape and curating a functional wardrobe was endlessly educational and informative. I was happy I watched this when came the time to shop for my first office job. I knew what to look for and nailed it! While some aspects of the show wouldn't work as well in today's society, the title of the new show hints at growth from the hosts. It's okay to change your perspective on things, that is the way we learn and grow as humans. Owning that shows a lot of humility. From what I gather, this new show - Wear Whatever the F You Want - will focus on aligning personal style with your life goals. In other words, it's no longer a one-size-fits-all approach but rather a more tailored experience. (Wow, the puns in that sentence are actual perfection!) The show was picked up for eight episodes on Prime and I'm already hoping for more!
