Mimi Takes Five - #313

ONE // Fireworks!
A friend we met on vacation in Mexico last winter was in town this past weekend. We'd kept in touch so decided to meet up for the day. She really wanted to explore the Byward Market in the summer, so that's what we did! It was a very hot day however, so we ended up finding a cute spot with AC and ordered a pitcher of sangria and fries. We just gabbed the day away. Before we knew it, it was time to meet up with my husband for dinner. We had planned ahead and gotten tickets to the first fireworks show of Les grands feux du casino lac-Leamy, a local yearly fireworks festival. It's actually a big deal with delegations from many countries putting on shows throughout the month. We got to see China's performance and it was amazing! I'm not usually huge on regular fireworks, but can appreciate the artistry and choreography of a specially conceived firework display. The timing, the music and accompanying narration really pull it all together. We all loved it!

TWO // Journal
On August first, I officially started my third year of journaling. I started very simply with the one sentence a day journal. I love the format of this journal and I look forward to writing in it every day. It's easy, a sentence is an achievable goal every day. My routine has become to write my sentence right before bed. I also find myself taking mental notes throughout the day of what I want to write in it, and this helps me be more mindful of the nuggets of joy that I find in the mundane, every day. I can't believe it's been two full years already! I hardly even think about it now, it's just part of my routine. I even take my journal with me when I travel! The small format makes that easier. I also love rereading the sentences I wrote down on the same day the previous years. It's a real collection of happy little memories. If you are thinking of easing into journaling, this one is a great place to start! The best part is you can start on any day of the year!

THREE // Pink Mushroom
Those of you who were around last year will be familiar with my love of all things mushroom last fall. It was borderline obsessive, I admit. However, I did add lots of really cute mushroom elements to my fall décor and am still very pleased with that. In fact, I'm very much looking forward to pulling it all out again this year. In the meantime, I did manage to acquire another mushroom and have snuck it into my décor early, ha! I got this rather cute pink velvet top mushroom and it's been living on top of my piano for a few weeks now. I think it lends itself better to a spring colour palette and fits in nicely with my floral diamond painting on the mantel. I've not gotten into decorating for spring yet, but it would appear I sort of started to this year. I think I'll need another seasonal décor storage bin...

FOUR // HHH Pre-Fall Capsule
My favourite time of year is almost upon us and that means the Hill House drops are going to be very hard to resist... Like last year, this year we'll see a pre-fall capsule and a fall drop about a month apart. The pre-fall launched yesterday and the offerings are a dream. I already love it all so can only imagine what goodies will launch next month. The capsule is a very reasonable drop and easy to digest. I find bigger drops to be overwhelming at times. This one is a nice size. I love every single print so far this year... I love both the thistle and the bottle green fleur chintz so much I can't decide which I prefer! They are both so good! I also really love the ikat topiary in mustard and burgundy (a favourite fall colour combo!) And then there are the green and burgundy shadow stripes with actual tone on tone smocking! Gah, the offerings are all so good I feel like it's an all or nothing situation for me. I think my game plan will be to sit tight and wait to see the entire fall drop before ultimately deciding.

FIVE // Titanic Book
I couldn't resist buying this book on my recent trip to Halifax. I've always been fascinated with the story of the Titanic. I grew up in the 90s and that coincided with a slight revival of the story. Anybody else remember the two VHS movie-watching experience? Good times! While I do very much enjoy the James Cameron movie, I'm more intrigued by the real-life stories of the people who survived (and didn't) this nightmare. I've seen every possible movie, TV series and documentary on this famous ship and listened to many a podcast on the subject as well. I've likely heard every story and conspiracy theory out there, yet am still drawn to the subject. Naturally, I couldn't leave this book on the shelf. I have yet to sink my teeth into it, but am very much looking forward to reading true stories about the people who lived this disaster.
