Mimi Takes Five - #321

ONE // Beige Half-Zip
A sweater so good I bought it three times. True story. I discovered and fell in love with this Old Navy half-zip this past summer. It's the most comfortable top to just throw on and feel put together on the weekend. I've worn it with everything from leggings, to jeans and dresses. I love the slightly cropped length and the big zippered front pocket. So practical! I'm also a big fan of the zip-up funnel neck for when it gets chillier. Oh, and for us long-armed girls, the sleeves are long enough. I love my bright fuchsia one and the baby blue is also gorgeous but I just had to get a more neutral option for fall. This beige one is a perfect addition to my loungewear wardrobe. They also come in different styles now with hoods or more tunic length. Not saying I'm not eyeing more, but also saying I'd consider another deeper colourway...

TWO // Cross Stitch
I picked up this lemon cross stitch kit on a whim at the dollar store months ago. I've always been curious about thread art forms, and am no stranger to a needle and thread, so thought it would be a fun little project. Well, I'd almost forgotten about it until I saw it before our vacation in August and decided to bring it with me. I ended up busting out the kit when at my parents and I'm happy I did because my mom was there to help get me started. The instructions were sparse, so her help was very welcome. I struggled a bit at first because I was getting my thread tangled and knotted. Thankfully, my husband is great at undoing knots and turns out his grandma had taught him how to cross stitch, so he also helped me out a lot and gave me great pointers! After sixteen years, we still learn things about one another! The more it went, the better I got at it and managed to finish my lemon cross stitch project. I even ended up improvising a bit and making it my own. I finished it just in time to put it away with my spring/summer décor. I'll display my handy work next year. I would totally do more of this craft, it's definitely relaxing and meditative (once you get the hang of it!)

THREE // Satin Bows
Now that my velvet hair bow collection is rather complete, I'm turning my attention to the matte satin offerings by Grace & Grandeur. I couldn't resist the new merlot colour of the fall launch, it's a perfect deep red hue. Ideal to wear now for fall, but also throughout the holiday season and beyond. The satin is a bit more delicate and I love the movement it has. I then decided to add the Chambray blue (which I'd been eyeing since the spring) to my order and really love the shade in person. It's the perfect light blue hue! I haven't worn it yet because it's not fitting in my current autumnal colour palette, but I'm sure it will shine in due time. Finally, I added a classic, simple black satin hair bow to my collection. You really can't go wrong with the classics, but I somehow overlook them at times. The fancier options and statement-worthy bows always catch my eye first, ha ha!

FOUR // Mushroom Soap Holder
I can't remember when I got this adorable mushroom soap holder from Bath & Body Works. All I recall is that I had gotten it on clearance and got sucked into the cuteness. It lines up perfectly with my mushroom décor obsession of last fall! I knew I had the right kind of soap bottles to fit in it, so I just bought it. I had then tucked it away in my décor boxes only to find it this fall and get to use it. I don't tend to decorate my bathrooms seasonally (not yet, anyway) so this is a first step in that direction. It does not go at all with my powder room's décor, so I might put it in a different bathroom next time. It serves no other purpose than being cute (did I mention it lights up too?) but I still love it!

FIVE // Reese's Shapes
It's finally the time of year when Reese's shapes hit shelves again. It's a long stretch between Easter and Halloween, am I right? Now, we can breathe a sigh of relief as the sweet shapely treats should be available for a few months. If you know Reese's, you know the shapes are far superior to the cups. I enjoy both, but there is something superior about the ratio and texture of the shapes. In the past, I'd find packages of the bigger shapes available but have only found the treat-sized ones this year. Not a big deal. I was worries they'd be different, but they are still the same Reese's shapes but in smaller size. I'm actually fine with that now as I can enjoy the treats in a more reasonable portion and there are so many more in a bag! I'm already on my third bag of these bad boys and plan on getting more to tide me until the Christmas shapes come out!
