ONE // Candy Corn Pillow
My most recent sewing project has been this little candy corn cushion cover. It turned out so sweet, I love it! So my husband came home with a bud pillow he got at a fair. It's very random and has been sitting in our living room ever since as a bit of a joke. Well, I was staring at this triangular shaped pillow and had an aha moment! I will give it an autumnal makeover so that it fits into my seasonal décor. I was lucky enough to go through my aunt's fabric scraps to find the right yellow, orange and white to make my vision come to life. I had no pattern, so traced the pillow and took measurements to make my own. I don't know why I always come up with my own ambitious sewing projects instead of following existing patterns. Yet, here I am again... After a bit of trial and error, a video chat with my mom (the resident sewer) and some troubleshooting with my mathematically inclined husband I managed to make my cushion cover with a slit at the back for easy stuffing. It's perfectly imperfect, just like a piece of real candy corn! I'm so pleased with the result and it fits in so well with my fall décor. Definitely one of my more creative ideas! Stay tuned because I already have another idea lined up for Christmas...
TWO // Mountain Coaster
My husband had been wanting to ride the mountain coaster at Camp Fortune for the past few months. The timing never worked out to go with friends, so I asked him if he'd want to go just the two of us. That way we'd still get to ride it and can always go again with friends next year. He was down, so we booked our tickets for the Thanksgiving long weekend. We didn't realize it was the last few operating days of the season, but our timing was perfect as the mountain was awash with stunning fall foliage! The weather was also perfect, not too hot nor too cold. I'm not usually one for roller coasters, but the mountain coaster allows you to control the speed. We went down twice and I was definitely braver the second time around. My husband would go ahead of me because he would surely be going faster, ha ha! It was actually such a fun activity and would be perfect for families as children have the option of riding with an adult. I would definitely do this again!
THREE // Spider Brooch
I wasn't looking to add a creepy crawler to my brooch collection, yet here I am... I randomly came across this eight-legged beauty the other day and it was an immediate add-to-cart! I love my new glittery spider brooch and think it's such a perfect design for this time of year. I mean, it's spooky season after all, why not go all in? I've worn it a few times already and find it to give just the right amount of seasonal flair to my looks. So happy with this addition! Not sure how much I'll wear it the rest of the year, but for now, it's getting lots of wear.
FOUR // Leaf Peeping
My husband and I took a few days to escape to Northern Ontario after Thanksgiving to take in all the fall colours. It was peak leaf-peeping season! The canopy was awash with all the reds, oranges, yellows and browns that make up the autumn colour palette. It was seriously breathtaking! Waking up to the mist on the lake and panoramic view of the hillside was exactly the high I was chasing. I really got my fill of what the season has to offer and am so happy I took the time to pause and enjoy it to the fullest. Our daily walks through the woods with its leaf-covered ground and leaves dancing in the wind truly made my heart sing. I'm so lucky to live where fall shows up it all its glory and grateful that I get to experience it year after year. The magic of the season was everywhere I looked and it filled me with joy. Take it in while you can because fall is ephemeral, that's part of its charm.
FIVE // Moody French Mani
After my dark-as-night purple manicure, I decided to give myself another moody mani. This time, I did a burgundy base with metallic brown French tip. I've been doing this darker French manicure for years now and always like the unexpected colour combo for fall. What is normally a prim and proper manicure gets a spooky twist and I love that! My execution is never perfect, but it's all for the fun of it. Besides, I'm the one who enjoys my manicures the most anyway, so as long as I'm happy with it, that's all that matters.
