Mimi Takes Five - #379

ONE // Classic Specs
I saved the best for last. Here are my newest, fanciest glasses! My husband is the one who picked these out and I don't think he could have picked a style more suited to me. I have not had metal frames is a very long time but I had to give in with these glasses. The bold, black upper detail, paired with the cat-eye shape and subtle rose gold make these the classiest glasses I've ever owned. They are sophisticated, elegant and timeless. I was trying to avoid splurging on designer frames (which is how I ended up with the blue plastic frames featured last week) but I simply could not leave these behind once I tried them on. My husband was adamant I get them. He's usually the one trying to dissuade me from buying expensive options, ha ha! I suppose that because I actually need glasses, the designer splurge is more justifiable. I've been wearing them for a few days and really do love them. My husband is also very pleased with his great choice and mentions how good these glasses look every chance he gets. I have now added Michael Kors to my line-up of designer prescription eyewear.

TWO // 10 years!
And just like that, I've been blogging for ten years. It was my 10th blogiversary on Monday! The day came and went without any fanfare. To be honest, I'm the only one who tracks this and remotely cares about the milestone. I mean, I'm not expecting anything but I do take a moment myself to look at how far I've come on this journey. The blog is still very much my creative outlet and it brings me joy. I'll keep doing for as long as that joy remains. I'm hoping it brings some of you the same joy along the way!

THREE // Knot Ring
About two years ago my husband got me a nice silver ring for my birthday. It was to replace one I'd been wearing every day for years that had gotten too tight. I loved it! It had three little gems on it and had a wave detail. Sadly, a few months after getting it I managed to get gas on it while filling up the lawn mower and all the little gems fell out... I'd been looking for a replacement ever since and just hadn't found the right one - until now! We were randomly in the Byward Market a few weeks ago and my husband slowed down to look at the jewelry stalls and that's when I found this beautiful knot detail ring in the right size. I've finally replaced a damaged ring I'd been wearing for the better part of a year and a half. Waiting until I found just the right one was worth it! I'm loving this rounded, eternity design ring and its smooth edges means it won't get caught on anything!

FOUR // Fall Over
Last weekend, I took down and put away all the fall décor. The time just felt right, I was starting to tire of it. As much as it feels great to clear up the seasonal décor, I inevitably find my space so bare and empty. It usually takes me a day or two to get used to it again so I don't dwell on that. Once I've managed to fit everything in the boxes and put them back into storage, I always take the time to clean and freshen up the space. I give everything a good dusting, I wash all the couch throws and do a deep vacuuming. I also like to put away fall and give it a few weeks before switching to the Christmas décor. I find I need that palate cleanser! I was particularly proud of my timing this year as the first snow storm happened the day after, so it felt even more timely. I enjoyed my fall décor as much as I wanted this year and I'm alright with tucking it away until next fall.

FIVE // Burgundy Shoes
I had a pair of patent burgundy heels for ages. They were so old. I remember buying them at Sears my first year of university... They were cute and lasted longer than I could have asked but I was on the lookout for an updated pair. When I found this low block heel version at Simons, I was sold! They were classic, preppy and most of all, functional. The ideal everyday shoe that I can pair with dresses and pants alike. I'm leaning more and more into timeless wardrobe staples that align with my personal style. I tend to replace pieces that have been well loved for updated versions and think that's the key in building a functional, lasting personal style.
