Mimi Takes Five - #383

ONE // Bow Button Sweater
I rarely wear black, and when I do, it's not usually during the holidays. I use that time to wear as much red, green, gold and tartan as possible. If I do wear black, it's usually something sequined or velvet. That being said, I did get this velvet bow front sweater and I love it so much I've worn it a handful of times already! It's almost deceptive in its simplicity because it's a black knit cardigan with puffed sleeves. The wow factor is the velvet bow buttons. Simple design, yet packs a punch! I've styled it both casually and dressed up - it's such a versatile piece to throw in your suitcase for the holidays. The best part is that it will transition well to winter dressing for the remainder of the cold season. I love holiday wear that can last a few months!

TWO // Holiday Tea
Tradition dictates that my colleagues and I go for afternoon tea as our Christmas outing. We started this a good eight years ago and it's still our preferred activity to this day. We are all big tea drinkers, what can I say? And who doesn't love tea sandwiches, scones and little sweet treats? We tried a new place this year and it was different. The food was amazing and the company was delightful. I just found the ambient noise a bit much, but it was in a big open space in a church and it was a full house. It was naturally going to get a little loud. I love these little rituals - it makes things easy. No big question of "what are we going to do his year?" The answer is always afternoon tea, we just need to pick a day and time!

THREE // Red Manicure
It wouldn't be the holidays if I didn't give myself a cheerful red manicure! It's not a big thing, but I try to make a point of painting my nails red at least once throughout the season. It's a small touch that has big impact! I tend to wear red lipstick a lot during the holidays, so matching nails is always a nice addition to the final look. I just used an old nail polish I've had for years. Any red polish will do, no need for a specific brand. I love every shade of red from the bright apple red to a deeper wine colour. Just pick a shade you like! If red is too bold for you, try a glittery gold or even just a clear polish with glitter to add a little Christmas cheer to your nails. It's the holidays, let loose and wear the fun nail polish!

FOUR // G&G Holiday Bows
I keep thinking my hair bow collection is complete and then Sarah comes out with new styles and fabrics that I can't resist... I swear I don't know how I ever lived without an extensive selection of hair bows before! I have a particular soft spot for the fall and festive offerings and the tartans got me this year. I just had to add a Blackwatch (not sure how I didn't already have one!), a red tartan (I have a bigger different silhouette) and the new white tartan was a must! I thought that was my wishlist complete until Sarah so generously offered me a complimentary bow of my choosing and encouraged me to be brave enough to go for the oversized Bailee bow in red satin. That was the best decision I made because this bow is the most jaw-dropping one of my entire collection. The photos don't do it justice, it is breathtakingly stunning in person! If I've got nothing else figured out for the holidays, at least all of my hairstyle needs are covered. A bow can fix just about anything, right?

FIVE // We Met in December
Last summer, I got to do some background work on a Hallmark Christmas movie and it premiere on November 27! It's called We Met in December and it was such a cute story. I really enjoyed watching this movie, it was particularly magical. I'm happy to report that the three scenes I worked on made the cut and I was able to spot myself! There's something really surreal about seeing yourself in a movie on TV. I'm obviously not the main focus, but it's still such a cool experience. Autumn and Niall were really great on set and Autumn even complimented my outfit (I mean, life goal right there!) See if you can spot me in the dance concert and Christmas party scenes!
