Mimi Takes Five - #401

ONE // Queen by Candlelight
I've been seeing ads for a variety of these Candlelight concerts. While intrigued, I never got around to actually buying tickets. That is until the right opportunity presented itself. My mom was coming to town and we like to catch a show when she does. My husband came across a Queen themed Candlelight concert and I thought that sounded like just the right thing. We also invited my friend and her kids along (because she's been a Queen fan for as long as I can remember) and we had a fabulous night. I love the taking of pop songs and playing them in a classical style. I will say, some interpretations were giving major Bridgerton vibes, ha ha! The moody setting of a dark church filled with thousands of candles and a string quartet makes for a great sensory experience. I would definitely do another!

TWO // Italian Herb & Cheese Bread
My latest flavoured sourdough was an Italian herb and cheese. I wanted to make a bread for my mom and sister's visit and was guided by their flavour preferences and came up with this one. It was rather straightforward. I added a good tablespoon of Italiano seasoning and a blend of sharp cheddar, marbled cheddar and Parmesan cheese during my stretch and folds. It smelled amazing while baking and it tasted just as great! I must say, the crumb was almost perfect with this loaf and there was an even distribution of inclusions. I was pleasantly pleased with the rise I got from this loaf considering cheese tends to weight down the dough. It was a resounding hit and a crowd pleaser. Another winning bread! My mom even brought her own jar so I could give her some starter. She wants to learn how to make sourdough too!

THREE // Spring Throw
I love changing up my décor with seasonal bits. I go hard for fall and Christmas, then I hit refresh come winter with a couple touches here and there. Usually, by spring I'm back to my regular, everyday décor. However, in recent years, a few spring bits started popping up here and there... A few crafts just started being put on display and next thing you know, it looks like I now decorate for spring! It's nowhere near as elaborate as other seasons, but I decided to lean into it a bit more and get a floral couch throw. This is an item I actually use daily so it's functional. I find swapping out throws and cushion covers an easy way to update your space seasonally and the storage is reasonable. This pastel floral throw picks up on colours that are already in the room as well as the touches of pink I added for spring. It's not much, but I'm linking the new spring vibes!

FOUR // The Testaments
I'm not sure how this didn't cross my radar... I've watched every season of The Handmaid's Tale and read the book many years ago. I remember the sequel book was coming, but I don't think I ever got around to reading it. I can't remember! Either way, I was blissfully unaware the sequel, The Testaments, was also going to be made into a television series. Lucky for me I guess because I didn't have to anticipate it! After seeing the trailer last week, I added it to my to-watch list. It'll be interesting to get a different perspective of Gilead from one of the young girls. We only heard of and saw glimpses of what life was like for the younger girls. I'm sure it will be just as twisted and dystopian as the original. I haven't watched the first episode yet so my impression is only of the trailer but I think it's going to be a captivating show.

FIVE // Blue Sports Bra
A few weeks ago I got a new style of sports bra to try it out. Turns out, I like it. It's great for low-impact exercise like yoga or Pilates and comfortable enough to wear casually on the weekend. I have yet to try wearing it on a run, but still plan on testing it out for more intense cardio. I also decided to try it in a smaller size, so got a different colour. I think this fit is even better. Both sizes work, but I think I prefer the smaller size as I like an adjusted fit for my sports bras. It's always hard to tell what size I'd need in a new style so end up testing a few before finding just the right fit.
