Mimi Takes Five - #414

ONE // Bean Update
After growing like weeds for the last few weeks, our bean plants have finally started flowering! It's so exciting to see little white blooms peppering the mass of green leaves and tangle of vines. I'd say our beanstalks are the plants that are doing the most these days and I can't wait to start harvesting green beans! I suspect we'll be getting many. In the meantime, the sunflowers, which are in the same planter, have really shot up as well and some of the bean vines have started twisting around the support provided by the sturdy sunflowers. This is exciting because that was the whole point of planting these two together! Nature is magical!

It's time for the annual Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! I'll be honest that there were a few years during which the sale was not accessible to Canadians, but shipping is again offered to Canada. In the past, I've loved this sale and have gotten plenty of fall wardrobe staples over the years. I know that the duties and taxes add up, but now would be the best time to get the most bang for your buck because the sale prices are decent. I perused the sale and have compiled all of my favourite fall items here. There are a lot of good pieces and plenty that are similar to items I have in my own wardrobe. I notice lots of barn coats, boots, browns, corduroy, plaid prints and it even appears as if capes are back! The sale opens to the public tomorrow, July 18. I recommend adding items you like to your wishlist for a quicker checkout on Saturday as items tend to go quickly.

THREE // Red T-Shirt
I found my wardrobe lacking in basic, solid-coloured t-shirts and decided to remedy that. Last summer, I added a basic navy V-neck t-shirt and it has proven to be very useful. So, this year I added this basic red crew-neck t-shirt. I've already worn it a handful of times and it's comfortable and versatile - what more could I ask of a t-shirt? I tend to focus on the fun, flashy pieces of my wardrobe and sometimes can overlook the basics. However, when it comes to putting together outfits, the basics are key. Happy to have a red t-shirt in my closet now.

FOUR // Fresh Hair
After a week of camping and many weeks of hot summer weather, it was time for a little hair maintenance. Off to the salon I went! I got my roots touched up and my ends trimmed. I always find the sun, humidity and general summer weather to be hard on my strands. That being said, I still try to do what I can to maintain healthy hair. It was a good refresh and I feel like my hair got a little reset. The next appointment will be for a full colour as my colour fades over time, especially in the summer. I like to do that to align with fall as my hair will be slightly darker and I find the timing with cozy season to be just right.

FIVE // Pink Pants
My mom gave me these knit pants a few summers ago and they've become a usual weekend choice. They are comfortable and lightweight with lots of stretch. I tend to wear them for lounging or doing a light yoga session. I brought them camping recently and I'm so happy I did! They were a better option than sweatpants in the heatwave for leg coverage around the campfire to keep the bugs away. They also work well if you get stuck in the rain as they dry very quickly. I didn't realize just how versatile they would be in nature. Will for sure bring them the next time, too!
