This was the first book of the series I read before watching the show (because it's not been made yet) and, I must say, I really enjoyed this book! I'd say it's ranking in second place for me, behind Colin and Penelope's story. I read this one in just over a week and found the story to have a much better flow. I loved seeing the interactions between Eloise and her brothers. While the Bridgerton men are all slightly problematic, it was not as heavy-handed in this book. I think the way Anthony protected and listened to his sister proved how well he knew and respected her. I also love seeing the closeness of Eloise and Sophie and just how the Bridgerton world is expanding. I like how often the larger family members featured in this book. Eloise is a firecracker and remains true to herself throughout. It was nice to see she was accepted and loved for who she is and didn't feel the need to change to satisfy anyone. I admit the Phillip character had his blind spots, but he was ultimately dealing with his past traumas and trying his best to navigate the world. Eloise came in at the right time to help him heal and see that he could improve his lot and find happiness. What started out as a union of convenience soon blossomed. Like I said, I enjoyed this book. Now, it's on to Francesca's story! Crumbs have been dropped in the last few books about her relationship and I can't wait to dive in. However, I'm not going into it with zero knowledge because the show, while no season has been dedicated to Francesca, wove in a few bits of her story along the way.
TWO // Gingham Workout Set
I went back and forth on this light blue gingham workout set for a little while before finally just getting it. No regrets! It's such an adorable print. I love the design of the shorts without a front seam, IKYKY. That's such a simple design change that makes a world of difference. Honestly, I'm not sure why it too so long! The print of this workout set makes it easier to wear more casually to run errands because it reads as regular clothing. Just add an oversized white button down and some white sneakers with a cross-body bag. I love a matching set worn together but also appreciate the versatility of wearing the pieces separately. I've got plenty of other light blue and white workout pieces I can mix and match.
THREE // Gazebo
We've been slowly but surely turning our yard into a little oasis. We love spending time outdoors in the warmer months and want to make it as functional as possible to really maximize our space. One thing we desperately needed was shade. Last year, my husband worked on laying down some patio stones in an unused area and this year, it was time to add a structure. We settled on a gazebo! My husband spent the better part of two days assembling it pretty much all on his own (I helped a tiny bit with certain steps!) The weather on the first day was less hot with a breeze. But day two was a scorcher and the heat reflecting off the roof panels was brutal. He powered through and got it all set up. So far, we are quite pleased with the new backyard addition and are working on figuring out a curtain situation for even more shade. One step at a time!
FOUR // Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol
Oh, this movie is going on my to-watch list this upcoming Christmas season! You can't get more classic than A Christmas Carol and this story has been told and retold countless times, yet people don't seem to tire of it. I suppose it's the chokehold of tradition at play here. Either way, I am really looking forward to Depp's interpretation of Scrooge. He does odd characters and misfits so well. I'm thinking this interpretation will lean a bit more into the darkness of the ghosts because, let's face it, the story is a dark one. I'm also curious to see if the story will be told more through the lens of the current world. I know the lessons and moral of the story transcend time (probably a reason it's still so popular) but I wonder just how much of those lessons will resonate with today's audience.
FIVE // Crab Boil
My parents dropped in for a night on their way to visit my dad's family. Seeing as we had one night only with them, we made the most of it! My dad is a big seafood lover, so there was only one place we could go - Seau de Crabe! It's the seafood boil restaurant we first tried on my birthday and it was so good we said at that point that we'd have to take my dad the next time he was in town. So we did just that! My mom is not a big seafood eater, but even she ate plenty. It's such a fun meal when everyone is wearing bibs, gloves and cracking shells. It's the ultimate playing-with-your-food experience. No crab leg was left behind! Seeing as the restaurant choice was more in my dad's tastes, my mom requested we go to Chocolat Favoris for dessert so we did just that! Everybody got a decadent sweet treat and left happy! We had such a fun time and it was nice to get to share an evening out with my parents. We live so far apart that it's always special when we do get to spend time with them.
