Stripe a Pose!

I went all out with the print mixing today, incorporating a total of three different prints... Let's break it down. I started with a bold striped dress in a monochromatic palette. I then added some black polka dot tights to the mix. Both the dress and tights are in the same palette, so do not compete with one another. They work together well because the dress is a very bold, graphic pattern while the tights are more subdued and subtle. The polka dots are also very small and dispersed, proving to be a less eye-catching pattern. I finished off the look by adding a red tartan scarf. This print is also a graphic print, but is a splash of colour (and gives the final look a hint of holiday spirit.) Therefore, it is the piece that should be the centre of attention. I am a huge fan of pairing stripes and plaids. There is just something about this combination that gets me every time. When paired with a plaid pattern, stripes become a neutral, taking a step back and letting the plaid be the star of the show.

Print mixing is so much fun once you get the hang of it. Need more inspiration? Check out my print-mixing guide from a couple years ago for extra pointers. Or, just recreate this very look with similar items gathered up in the widget below.
