Mimi Takes Five - #361

ONE // Camping
We took a week off to go camping and it was the perfect kick-off to summer. We delayed by one day because of rain storms, but the rest of the week was glorious. I'd say it was almost too hot for a campfire at times (and the bugs were vicious), but we persevered! We went to our favourite provincial park - Driftwood. We keep trying new ones, but always return to this one. It's hard to beat the proximity of the camp sites to the beach. We were unable to book a beach site for the duration of our trip, so we split it up and booked two sites. Halfway through the week, we picked up our tents (literally) and moved them down the road to our other site. It felt like a little tent parade! I'm sure we made a few fellow campers smirk. It was way easier than taking everything down to then reset it 100 m down the road... We got plenty of sun, swam to our hearts' content and my husband got lots of fishing done. A great time was had by all! Already looking forward to going back!

TWO // Terry Shorts
I've gone a little yellow mad this season and am attracted to any and all yellow clothing. That's what happened with these shorts! During our camping trip, we stopped at Giant Tiger to get a few supplies. There was a rack filled with different coloured terry shorts outside and I immediately zoned in on the yellow ones. I instantly loved the retro feel with the white pinstripe and think terry cloth is such a perfect fabric for summer at the lake and around the pool. I knew I'd wear these that very day at the campsite and then some. The best part is that they were only $5! I mean, as far as impulse purchases go, that was a great one. I slightly regret not getting the lilac ones too...

THREE // Baking Bonanza
After a week of camping, I was itching to get into the kitchen and bake. It's funny how I missed it! I mean, we prep all our meals while camping, but I didn't really make much from scratch and I was feeling the urge. We did groceries first thing the day after we got back and I let my husband decide what bread and flavour he wanted - he requested a focaccia with thyme and tomatoes because he wanted to make a homemade red sauce with pasta for dinner. His wish was my command! We also picked up some fresh cherries and had leftover strawberries so I decided to whip up a cobbler for dessert. Let's just say, our meal ended up being quite gourmet that evening. The next day I also decided to bake a sourdough, which we used for French Toast the following day and it was glorious. It feels so good to get back to baking. I'm realizing it's a great creative outlet for me.

FOUR // Code Orange!
Summerween is in full swing at Bath and Body Works and I couldn't be more thrilled about it! I popped into my local store during a rainy day lunch break and felt like I was coming home. I browsed the new Halloween and Fall selections while a spooky playlist was filling the store with autumn cheer. I mean, is there anything that fills you with hope as much as smelling fall candles while the Practical Magic soundtrack is playing? It was just the escape I needed on a hot, muggy summer day. There is hope that fall is on the way and I find that energizing! I then decided to keep hunting for other code orange stores and found a few bits at Simons and American Eagle. The fall goodie hunt is so on! I'm now itching to go to Homesense to see what's up...

FIVE // Watermelon
I've been loving fruit lately. Well, I always love eating fruit, but I'm particularly enjoying this season's offerings. We decided to get a watermelon at the grocery store other day because they were small. With just two of us, it's hard to eat one of those big watermelons. Well, turns out we picked a good one! The flesh is a deep pink and it's perfectly juicy and sweet - the ideal treat for a hot day! I mean, watermelon is basically nature's electrolyte, so go ahead and eat as much as you want this summer! Even our four-legged friend adores little chunks of watermelon, she practically begs us to share some with her. I go so far as letting her lick the watermelon juice at the bottom of my snack bowl. It's a treat for the whole family!
