Mimi Takes Five - #21

ONE // Surprise Bachelorette
Last Sunday, my sister (maid of honour) and best friend (bridesmaid) surprised me with a bachelorette! I was only instructed to not make plans on that day and my sister then told me to wear white the night before. I had a feeling she was up to something, but chose not to ask too many questions. My fiancé was in on it and was tasked with getting me to the venue. Once we pulled up to the Château Laurier, I knew what I was in for! They serve the most amazing afternoon tea and it's one of my favourite places! They instructed everyone to dress up and wear fascinators, but my sister had a tiara for me. Needless to say, they nailed it! The day was totally me. I am not into the bar scene and explicit paraphernalia, so a low-key activity surrounded by family and friends is how I prefer to spend my time. I am an avid tea drinker, wear fascinators every chance I get, like to dress fancy and do posh things and have an unhealthy obsession with the British royal family. Naturally, afternoon tea at the Château, wearing fascinators and discussing Princess Eugenie's recent wedding was the perfect bachelorette for this girl! Tomorrow's post will be of the outfit I ended up wearing so keep an eyes peeled!

TWO // Navy Bell-Sleeve Sweater
Sweater weather is just hitting its stride and I am ready for it! Knits and thick layers are a staple in any Canadian's wardrobe because we need the heavy artillery during our, shall I say, intense winters. I find it easy to get tired of sweaters so am always looking for interesting knit patterns, details, prints and any other fun element. Naturally, when I saw this navy sweater with bell sleeves and white piping, I couldn't resist! It's basic enough to be dressed up, but has that unexpected element that makes it anything but basic. I like my pieces to have a little something extra!

THREE // October Boîte à bonbons
I ordered another monthly candy box from La boîte à bonbons! I skipped September because I wasn't fussed with the selection and I still had candy left from August. I like to think I made a mature decision. I was however really looking forward to the October selection because: Halloween! I once again ordered the sour mix and it is amazing! My favs are the sour cubes and the dinosaurs. The spiders and worms were not as sour as I was expecting. Then again, I like my candy extra sour! Receiving a package of candy in the mail is sure to make your day every time!

Four // Navy Corduroy Skirt
I showed you the red one in this post and now I'm showing you the blue version. When something is this nice, you buy it twice! I find the mini corduroy skirt with buttons the absolute perfect fall skirt. It pairs well with sweaters, but also works with shirts, cardigans and t-shirts. Just add tights and the sky's the limit! They are as casual as they can be dressed up. I like a piece I can wear as much on the weekends as I could on a weekday. The versatility of this piece is well worth the teeny cost! It has a slight vintage vibe to it because of the buttons, but I find that adds to its charm!

FIVE //Notre-Dame de Paris
My mom, sister, aunt and I all went to see Notre-Dame de Paris when it was in town this week. We had planned this girl's night almost a year ago and had been looking forward to the show for some time now! When I was about 12, my mom took all four kids to see NDdP when it first came out 20 years ago and was all the rage. This show had a cult-following in my house! My mom had gotten the VHS (old school) of the performance with the original cast and we watched that thing on a loop. We knew every word to every song and sang along the entire time. Needless to say, my sister and I were beyond excited to see it again, as adults this time. The show did not disappoint!  Turns out I still remember pretty much all the lyrics and I got shivers when the orchestra played the first notes of the evening. All of those fond memories came rushing back and I was transported! The only thing that changed, apart from the cast, was the updated choreography, or should I say acrobatics? I was well impressed by the ensemble's talent! As far as musicals go, this one is at the top of my list. It's got action, drama, love triangles, history and I could go on and on. It tugs at the heartstrings and completely sucks you in. It will always hold a special place in my heart. If you haven't seen it yet, and the opportunity presents itself, take it! You won't be disappointed!
