Mimi Takes Five - #205

ONE // Pool Upgrade
We are living large these days! I kid, but we did upgrade our backyard *pool*. Before the pandemic, we always managed to go to a lake or someone's pool when in the mood for a swim on a hot day. During lockdown, we had to improvise. We had dug our little inflatable dinghy from the camping stuff, filled it with water and used that as a makeshift pool for the yard. It was only big enough for one of us to sit in at a time. However, it did the trick and allowed us to cool down on the hottest days. Last year, we were able to finally get our hands on an actual inflatable pool and we got around to trying it out last weekend. It's a much better system as we can both sit in it comfortably with room to spare. We set it up on the lawn and, while not glamorous, it's just the right thing to cool down on hot summer days. When it's time to change the water, we simply use it to water the plants. Waste not, want not.

TWO // Minions: The Rise of Gru
My husband and I went out on a very traditional date night last weekend to celebrate his birthday. It started with a dinner out, followed by a movie. I know, so original, ha ha! He was in the mood for ribs, so we went to Montana's. I hadn't been there in ages! We then had a couple hours to spend before the movie, so we got some McDonald's cones and sat by the river. It was a beautiful day and an evening by the water is always well spent. Finally, we took our seats at the theatre. Having enjoyed every previous Despicable Me/Minions movies, we decided to see the new one. It was just as entertaining as expected and had quite the talented cast to boot. It was very sweet to get an origin story for Gru and the 70s backdrop made for a nice nod to the past, although I'm sure that was more for the adults' sake than the kids. All in all, it was a very pleasant evening celebrating someone I love dearly.

THREE // Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2022
Truth be told, I've been less excited about the Nsale since 2020... That is due to two reasons. The first is that the Canadian Nordstrom site was launched in early summer 2020, making it impossible for me to shop the American site... Second, during the sale that year, not only could I not shop the Early Access at my local Nordstrom in person, but the inventory left much to be desired compared to the same sale in the U.S. It was very disappointing, to say the least. I actually didn't buy anything that year. The feeling was similar for last year's sale, the inventory was a bit better, but still lacking in comparison. I've scoped out the preview on the U.S. site for this year's sale and have rounded up some of the items that caught my eye. I don't have plans to shop in person because I'm doubtful the stock will be worth my while (what with supply chain issues and whatnot), and will see what there is on the Canadian site when the sale goes live. To be honest, I'm actually very satisfied with my current fall wardrobe and am not in need of anything. I already own similar items to the ones in the sale, which basically means they are still in, so I don't need to get more. I've rounded up some of my favourites from the sale and some similar items to items I own in the widget above. Simply click on the heart icon to get notifications for that item. There seems to be a decent amount of fall items, but I also get the impression there are a lot of more summery items, which is odd. Some of the items would most definitely not work for a Canadian fall... Either way, it's still one of the best fall sales out there, so for those interested, Early Access started on Wednesday, July 6 in the U.S. with the sale opens to the public on July 15. In Canada, Early Access is only one day (July 14) and opens to the public July 15 as well. I'll be sure to share with you all if I do end up getting something from the sale. Happy Nsale everyone!

FOUR // Belted Blue Shorts
I sorted through my shorts the other day and decided I needed an overhaul. I had gone through most of my closet this past winter to sort out items I wanted to get rid of, but had not done the shorts for some reason... I've since then remedied that but also made room for some new styles. Any excuse to shop, right! First up are these baby blue tie-waist shorts. They are as comfortable as sweats, yet are dressy enough to wear out. The sash is removable, which was a selling point for me as it makes them much more versatile. Keep an eye out for the other styles I've got on the way!

FIVE // The Santa Clauses
Last week, I spoke of the Hocus Pocus 2 release and this week I bring you some fresh Christmas content. Yes, I know it's early, but it's practically Christmas in July so I'm just going to go for it. I just found out that Disney+ will be releasing a series called The Santa Clauses and it will see Tim Allen reprise his famous role of Scott Calvin from the beloved 90s Christmas film franchise The Santa Clause. If you were a kid in the 90s this was one of the top Christmas movies of all time. I still love it to this day! Sure, the sequels were not amazing, but what sequels are? Either way, they would be a must-watch before starting the new series as it will pick up following the events of the third movie, The Escape Clause. The premise will centre around Scott's 65th birthday and the dwindling of his Santa magic. So, he's on a quest to find a replacement Santa. I, for one, am very much looking forward to this new Christmas series as it's basically my childhood dreams come true. It'll be a change from all the Christmas movies!
