ONE // Maple
I am so exciting to be seeing my little maple tree start to leaf this spring. We planted a sugar maple last summer and we were really hoping it would survive the winter. I was out in the yard daily, looking closely at the branches and the little buds to see if there was any progress. Because we've had a cold and rainy spring, I've noticed all other trees are blossoming later than usual this year. But I'm happy to report that we are getting leaf growth! It's such a good sign. I'm hoping we'll get a slightly bigger canopy this year (for more shade) and I already can't wait to see these pretty green leaves turn orange this fall! I cannot express just how much I'm living for my very own little sugar maple!
TWO // May Ipsy
After many, many months of skipping the Ipsy glam bag, I decided to get the May one because of the bag design. I fell for the light blue gingham and wristlet strap in contrasting navy. What can I say, it fit my aesthetic perfectly! The bag arrived this week and while I love the look, I'm a bit disappointed that the inside is not lined. That seems like a cut corner and it's not great. Other than that, it's a really cute bag! Now for what I got. I'm not mad about my selection but I'm also not super excited about it. I think my favourite is the black eye liner. I love a felt tip and this one applies smoothly - it's great! However, the mascara is absolutely awful... The brush applicator is so big and round it hinders the application. Very poor design. Would not recommend. The face cleanser is alright as a cleanser, but I don't think it can handle the heavy-lifting claim of removing make-up. There are better make-up balms out there. The face oil is fine, I can't tell if it really does anything. Finally, the body butter. This was my pick and I'm happy with it. It smells great and keeps my skin feeling smooth and not dry and itchy. It'll be great to travel with! This was a mid-range glam bag. I've definitely had better!
THREE // HP: The Official Film Podcast
Keep the Potter content coming! We are in for yet another Potter project to sink our teeth into (while we await the television series). HBO is launching a new podcast that will look back on the original Harry Potter movies. I literally grew up watching these and they have become comfort movies I put on regularly as background. I'm also a big fan of listening to podcasts while I commute, exercise and do housework. Basically, any solo time I have, I'm likely listening to a podcast. As my usual Potter podcast, Swish and Flick is winding down, I'm so happy to have another one starting up. Truth be told, I've probably watched the movies more often than I've read the books so I'm looking forward to content solely about the movies as opposed to comparing them (mostly unfavourably) to the books. From what I can tell, we'll be getting two episodes per movie, but I can't say for sure. We'll find out when it premieres on May 19th.
FOUR // Mary-Jane Espadrilles
I went out on a limb here and got shoes that wouldn't normally catch my eye. Well, maybe they would but it's hard to tell. I love espadrilles, I love Mary-Janes and I love the butter yellow colour. But I never would have pictures flat Mary-Jane espadrilles! At first glance, they are giving cutesy. However, my millennial brain immediately goes to Loonette the clown! This style is Big Comfy Couch chic and I'm totally embracing it! They are a bit oversized and because I have such large feet, they look borderline comical. While they look unique, I must say these are hands down the easiest, most comfortable shoes ever. The sole is padded, they slip on smoothly but don't restrict the foot in any way. I'll be wearing these on repeat all summer long! I'm entering my summer clown shoe era and I won't be looking back!
FIVE // Bytown Museum
I recently got the chance to visit the Bytown Museum. I've walked by this museum countless times and it was mentioned on countless other tours I'd taken but I had never gotten to go inside and see the exhibits. Well, I finally got to this week. I've always loved museums and am a bit of history buff, so this was right up my alley. It's located in the old Commissariat which happens to be Ottawa's oldest stone building. It was used during the construction of the Rideau Canal and is situated by the locks. The exhibits focus on the stories and people who shaped the city and took it from Bytown to today's Ottawa. With the city's 200th anniversary this year, it would be a great place to visit!
