Goody Hue Shoes

Summer rhymes with skirts! Ok, sort of rhymes... Either way, when the temperature rises, I am always reaching for breezy skirts and dresses. There really is no better (or feminine) garment for the summer weather. This particular printed skirt is actually an all-year-round go-to because its colours lend it well to pretty much any palette. Whether it be the warm tones of fall, the cool tones of winter, the pastels of spring or the brights of summer. I can seriously make this piece work any time of year!

Today's take was more on the pastel side with the baby blue shoes and belt. I also did a bit of print mixing by wearing a Breton striped top. My favourite part of the look thought is the vintage brooch! I recently raided my mom's brooch collection (she has gathered a decent amount over the years). This one especially makes me think of her as it is a safety pin adorned with sewing-related charms. My mom has is a very talented seamstress and quilter, so I can't help but think of her when I see a needle and thread. I have countless childhood memories of her cutting a pattern on the dining room table, ironing pieces as she went along, staying up till the wee hours of the morning working away on her latest project. I also vividly remember the hazardous try-on sessions of pieces in the works. Maneuvering in a way to avoid needle pricks was challenging to say the least! Let's just say that for a mom of 4 kids (who had a hectic career as a school teacher), she sure was a prolific sewer!
