Ascot Eliza

This is my take on an Eliza-Doolittle-at-Ascot outfit. I've always loved the over-the-top costumes in My Fair Lady, particularly the black and white ones in the Ascot scene. They are so dramatic and statement-worthy. *Chef's kiss*

I was inspired to put together my own black and white statement outfit and ended up layering two dresses. I didn't see that coming, but here we are, ha ha! I started with my striped bell-sleeve dress and layered my white bouclé wrap dress over top. I love how I got texture, pattern and big shapes going on. Truthfully, I was hoping he striped dress would be a tad longer so that the hem peeked out, but that was not the case. I added pearl drop earrings, sheer black tights and black satin pumps. I topped off the outfit with a show-stopping black and white asymmetrical brim hat that really completed the ensemble.

While the colour palette and patterns are very much in line with the costumes in My Fair Lady, the layered dresses were much more appropriate to winter dressing. Who knew I could get so much warmth by wearing two dresses at once? I just might try that trick in the future.
