Mimi Takes Five - #326

ONE // Scarecrow Craft
The second wooden block project my mom brought me was this cute little scarecrow! I think it's simply adorable, and the perfect addition to my classic fall décor. I like that it's a little figure I can take out and display earlier in the season. He fits in so nicely among the pumpkins, mushrooms and pinecones! I think the idea for the hat is precious and so clever. It's a simple tray (painted, of course) that is then filled with seasonal bowl filler. I like the natural elements and textures of the filler and the colours naturally go well with my décor. This was a very simple paint project and just goes to show that things don't need to be complicated to have great impact!

TWO // Fresh Hair
I went to the hair salon for my usual maintenance appointment. My roots had really grown out this time and my white hairs were very much visible so it was time. Luckily, I got to wear hats frequently, so was able to manage. I only got my roots done because I get a trim every second appointment. However, I really wanted to remember to ask for hair tinsel! I meant to ask in September and the idea completely slipped my mind at the time so I wanted to really make sure to remember this time around. I got a mix of red and copper. Copper is my go to as I find it the perfect neutral to complement my hair colour. I then added in some red because the holidays are coming and hair tinsel is a subtle way in which I get into the festive spirit!

THREE // Music by John Williams
I sat down with my husband to watch the John Williams documentary. He's a very musical person and is the one who would point out music to me in movies and how it tells you what to feel. I am now very attuned to this and can tell when something is about to happen based on the musical cues. I'm not mad about that! I'm a big fan of listening to movie soundtracks when I'm working and some of my favourites are from John Williams. Even if you might not recognize the name, I'm positive you'd recognize some of his musical scores. Jaws, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Home Alone and Harry Potter just to name a few. I only thought of this when watching the documentary, but I was a big lover of E.T. when I was little. I'd want to watch it all the time while the movie freaked out my older brother. Come to think of it, the soundtrack might have been what played a big part in my being drawn to this movie. It might have been my first time hearing music by John Williams. Without knowing it, I've loved his music ever since with the Home Alone and Harry Potter scores being top of mind. His story is a fascinating one and it was a pleasure to get a peek behind the curtain of a genius at work. His contributions to the worlds of music and film are legendary!

FOUR // Sweater Vest
I added this taupe cable-knit sweater vest to my closet this fall and it's been wonderful! I love the versatility of a sweater vest because it allows you to layer for warmth without adding too much bulk. I love the effect of a solid-coloured turtleneck layered under the textured sweater vest. Such an easy combination to put together. Not only is it super comfortable but it also gives off those classic preppy style vibes. With a neutral sweater vest, you can add pretty much any seasonal hue to create an endless array of cold-weather outfits. Not a fan of turtlenecks? Layer the sweater vest over a classic button-down shirt (bonus points if it's printed), over a dress, or under a blazer. I'm always finding new ways to style a sweater vest and am appreciating them more and more every day.

FIVE // Unwrapping Christmas Collection
I think I've mentioned it in a previous post, but I'm making a unique post for the Unwrapping Christmas Collection of movies being released on Hallmark+. It's a four-part Christmas movie that will play on Thursdays starting yesterday, November 7. I was lucky enough to get to do some background work on the second movie of the series - Mia's Prince. It was such a fun time on set and we worked late into the night. Be sure to look for me in the gala scenes! I'm really hoping I'll get to watch this movie because I don't have access to the app in Canada... They'll probably be on the Hallmark channel at a later date or even next Christmas season, so I'm thinking I'll get to watch the collection at some point. I love when Hallmark does these little series with each movie focusing on a different main character, all part of a bigger story. The Wedding Veil trilogy was along the same format and I loved that one!
