Mimi Takes Five - #325

ONE // Yellow Rain Coat
I'd been looking for a reason to get a yellow raincoat. I've wanted one for a long time - to me, they are such a classic! I've had yellow rain boots for years now (already on my second pair) and cannot imagine a wardrobe without them. I suspect I'll feel the same about a yellow raincoat. When I decided to dress up as Coraline for Halloween, it was just the push (and justification) I needed to finally get myself the raincoat. I scoured the internet until I found the perfect yellow raincoat. I took this mission very seriously and landed on this one I found at The Bay. It's the perfect shade of lemon drop yellow, is lined and insulated, has a hood and plenty of pockets. I also appreciate the vents on the sides. Now that it's had its inaugural wear in my Coraline costume, I plan on wearing this coat a lot! We haven't had much rain this fall, so it might have to wait until spring, but it will get worn!

TWO // Witch Craft
My mom brought me a box full of crafts a few days ago and I decided to get stuck in this past weekend. A local boutique where I grew up makes up these little craft kits with paints and wooden blocks. I've done so many at this point and always look forward to seeing what new designs they come up with every season. This year, there was a witch in the mix! I really liked painting this one as I think it's the first time I get a triangular piece and the tulle is a whimsical detail that adds character. Once I finished it, my husband thought it was missing something. So, he took it upon himself to gather twigs and dried pine needles outside to fashion a broom for my witch. He even drilled a hole for it on the base block. It's actually genius and I find it finishes the project perfectly!

THREE // Striped Running Shirt
The second item I got specifically for my Coraline costume is this pink and coral striped running shirt. I found it on Poshmark and think it's from 2013. It's a great quality shirt and the underside feels like a soft, brushed finish making it very comfortable to wear. I'd been looking for more long-sleeved running tops because the weather is cooler now and this type of top is ideal. I'm very happy that I'll get to wear this piece beyond just using it for my Halloween costume. And I got is second-hand, so it was wins all around on this purchase!

FOUR // Pumpkin Carving
I waited until the very last minute to carve my pumpkin this year. I was cutting it very close, ha ha! As some of you might have picked up, I've been following a bit of a theme this Halloween season. I had decided on my Coraline costume during the summer and it sort of shaped the direction and inspiration for a lot of my content this year. It seemed like a natural progression, so I leaned into it. That being said, a Coraline pumpkin seemed very fitting. I found this printout stencil online and hoped for the best. I've tried this whole stencil printout technique in the past to no avail. However, it really delivered this year! My secret tool - a thumbtack! Actually, I used three. I tacked the paper stencil onto the pumpkin with two thumbtacks and used the third one to dot the outlines of where I needed to cut out. That way, I could remove the paper for carving. It was a tricky design, but I stuck with it (a whole two and a half hours) and it really turned out! Some might even say it's as cute as a button! IYKYK

FIVE // Outlander - Season 7, Part 2
We finally have a release date for the second half of the seventh season of Outlander - November 22! I don't even remember how long this recent droughtlander has lasted (and I'm a bit afraid to look it up!) but I'm thrilled we finally get the end of the season. By this point, I don't even remember what happened in the books, so the story will hopefully feel like new again with little surprises along the way. I'm sure it'll come back to me as I watch but the books are definitely not as fresh in my mind. While I'm happy we'll be getting the end of season 7, I am a bit sad that season 8 (which has already completed filming) will be the final one. We already have a 9th book and a 10th and final book is rumoured to be on the way. We don't yet have an ending for Claire and Jamie's story, so I'm really not sure how the show will end. I suppose I'll have to wait and see, after yet another droughtlander, no doubt!
