ONE // Hello Fall
Finally got around to finishing the last of my wooden fall crafts. Better late than never! I really wanted to finish them before the paint dried in the kits and wanted to be able to put them away with my fall décor when I took it down. That way, I'd have some newer pieces ready to display next year! This one is a simpler design, yet packs a punch. The paint was watered down to make it more like a stain and the paint for the pumpkin was very thick, giving the pumpkin a neat textured finish. The burlap ribbon adds dimension and softens the overall feel, giving the sign that perfect rustic look. This late in the season, however, it would be more appropriate if it said "Goodbye Fall." I know we are still technically fall, but I am starting to change over my décor to the Christmas stuff, so it is rather late to me making new fall décor. Either way, I got it done and will look forward to unpacking it next September, at which point the sign's sentiment will be more à propos.
TWO // Martha Documentary
I watched the Martha Stewart documentary on Netflix. I remember watching Martha on TV on Sunday mornings as a kid and being fascinated at the ease with which she cooked and crafted. She had a soothing voice and an overall comforting presence. I also remember flipping through the Martha Stewart Living magazines. She was such a staple in the 90s! I vaguely remember the trial and her going to prison, but I never paid close attention to the happenings in those days and then I sort of forgot about her. The documentary examines her entire life and how she became such a household name, literally. I admire her drive and vision. She was a woman able to forge herself a place at the top by marketing and selling the housewife archetype. I mean, she's the OG influencer! Having gained perspective on how she was made an example of by a broken legal system, she was able to take that dark chapter of her life and use it to reinvent herself and regain her spot in the hearts of her public. She has her downfalls (who doesn't?) but was still able to build an empire and then rebuild it from the rubble. There is something to be admired about that.
THREE // Goodbye Fall
As mentioned above, I'm putting away my fall decorations to make way for the Christmas ones. I always find the takedown so bitter-sweet. It always feels too soon to put it all away. But, now that the trees are bare and the leaves have all come and gone, it's time to do the same indoors. Putting things away proved a little more challenging this year as I had quite a few more décor pieces... Thanks in part to my mom giving me three new crafts! I had to find three more boxes and play a bit of Tetris to make it all fit, but I got there in the end. The living room feels so empty and sad right now. However, it won't be long before I bust out the holiday décor! Besides, it's nice to give me space a good clean between seasons.
FOUR // HHH Annual Sale
The Hill House Annual Sale has begun and there are lots of great pieces at 30% off (use code EVERYTHING30 at checkout!) The sale includes everything from classic silhouettes to new releases, accessories, sleepwear and everything in between. Now is the perfect time to buy a little something for someone special, start your Christmas shopping or just treat yourself to that piece you've been eyeing for a while. There are so many great pieces to choose from! Thinking of getting your first Nap Dress, I suggest going with Ellie, the classic! Opt for a solid colour or one of the classic prints like the botanical or trellis colourways. I also have a soft spot for the tartan flannel dresses! Planning a winter getaway? Don't sleep on the swimsuits, they are the most gorgeous, feminine cuts and styles. Or look at the packing cubes and travel cases - really great options in that category. The hair accessories are gorgeous and such practical gift ideas. This stuff rarely goes on sale, so make the most of the opportunity!
FIVE // Juniper Tartan
Speaking of Hill House, I did acquire a new flannel tartan Nap Dress this year. (I can't resist their softness!) I had a hard look at my current collection and thought the Juniper Tartan colourway was different enough to justify the addition. I didn't have one that was predominantly green, so the math was mathing. Call it girl math, cost-per-wear analysis, shopping therapy - any of those justifications work. I absolutely love it! It's green, but not olive green of evergreen - it's somewhere in between. Also the red lines read as pink is some lighting and the yellow reads as gold. This just multiplies the justifications because it makes it a more-than-Christmas print. I can wear this beauty from fall all the way to spring without any seasonal incongruity. Did I want the entire holiday release from Hill House? Yes, yes I did. Plaids are my weakness. However, I am proud with the restraint I've shown and the analysis that went into this very thoughtful purchase.
