ONE // Christmas Time Is Here
I wasn't sure if I'd get around to it, but I managed to decorate for Christmas this past weekend. I got a very late start on the Saturday evening, so I settled on at least getting the tree up and decorated. That's the most time-consuming part, so I was pleased I got it done in one night. I then got to enjoy the warm glow of the tree, which is my most favourite thing this time of year. The short days make it the perfect time to light up the tree and set the festive mood. I finished decorating the rest of the space the following day. I usually do it all in one go, but it was nice to break it down into smaller tasks. I was running out of time to get it all done on the Sunday so my husband suggested it could wait. Yeah, no. It was a sweet thought, but in my mind I just had to get it done. I rather stress out a bit today than stress about it the rest of the week... Ultimately, I can at least check this off my to-do list and I get to enjoy my decor for as long as possible.
TWO // Sourdough Start
I did a thing this week and it was a long time coming. I made my first loaf of sourdough bread! I really got into baking during the pandemic and have been challenging myself ever since. I've made all types of bread, but had yet to tackle the humble sourdough. Being who I am, I decided to start at the very beginning and make my own starter. Yup. I used this method and started one back in October and kept it going for a while, but then the acidity was too high (smelled strongly of acetone) and I could not fix it.
So, I started over a couple weeks ago. I got myself a kitchen scale and was more consistent with my feedings and temperature. It took about a week to get it active. I then decided to try baking a loaf. I searched for recipes online and sort of got overwhelmed by the sheer amount of them. So, I just picked one and gave it a whirl. My first loaf totally turned out! It did not rise much, but the inside was nice and bubbly and the flavour was spot on. I'll obviously have to keep practising and experimenting but I'm calling my first foray into baking sourdough a win!
THREE // Silk Scarf
My husband surprised me with this beautiful floral silk scarf the other day! It was a just because gift. Isn't he just the sweetest, most thoughtful person? It's such a beautiful piece and you really can't go wrong with a classic floral print for a silk scarf. Luckily, I didn't have one in this pastel colour palette so am thrilled with the design. Even though I own many scarves, my fancier ones are satin. This is my very first silk scarf and you can really feel the lightness of the fabric and the gliding effect it has. I can't wait to style this beautiful accessory! Scarves are such classic pieces that one can wear throughout their lifetime, no matter what stage of life they are in or what their body looks like. In my opinion, they are pieces worth investing in because you can wear them forever and even pass them down one day. I think I'll have the scarf for the rest of my life!
FOUR // Puppy Knit
My dog loves her sweaters this time of year. I'm not making this up, she really loves them! Seeing as she likes wearing cozy knits, we've amassed quite the selection for her these past few years. A puppy needs options! Naturally, I find myself perusing the dog sweater aisles whenever we're out and about. When I found this adorable buttoned gingerbread knit at Homesense, it was an immediate add-to-cart! The red is so rich and I love the V-neck collar. This sweater fits her so well and is the most precious Christmas sweater ever! Seriously, I would have gotten one for myself if it came in my size.
FIVE // Friendzone Movie
My husband and I decided to watch this movie on a whim the other night. He decided to toggle Netflix to French and see what came up. We didn't over think it and just picked a movie that looked interesting. Seeing as Friendzone is a French movie, that's the audio we watched it in. This romantic comedy delivered on all fronts! We laughed so much and really enjoyed this movie. It was the perfect easy thing to watch on a cozy night in. There's even a very unexpected scene that caught us both by surprise! I recommend this movie for couples looking for something to watch together that is fun and not too serious.
