ONE // Leaves!
I've really been enjoying all the pretty leaves lately. I know how ephemeral this season can be so I take a moment to enjoy it every chance I get. I'm always in awe of nature this time of year and really marvel at its beauty. There is truly a sight to behold around every corner and I couldn't love it more. I took the above shot during a rainy day on campus and couldn't get over the beautiful blanket of red and yellow leaves completely covering the ground. We've been getting warmer weather than usual this year so the leaves seem to be changing in cycles. The ground is covered in leaves that have already changed and fallen while the trees are still full of green ones awaiting their turn. I'm totally on board with stretching out this season as much as possible!
TWO // Loafers
I'd been wanting a pair of classic black loafers for a while now. Luckily for me, they are back in style and I've had a real selection to choose from. I settled on this gold hardware pair in classic black. I liked the chunkiness of the chain and the overall silhouette of the shoe. They also have a cushioned footbed which makes them so comfortable to wear. I've been wearing them all the time and find them so easy to style with my preppy looks and more casual ones also. A classic black loafer is a closet MVP, seriously! I find myself reaching for them time and again!
THREE // Pumpkin Roll
It's become a bit of a tradition in my family that the go-to dessert on Thanksgiving is a pumpkin roll. My mom's been making it for ages and the copy of the recipe I have is in my sister's handwriting (from high school!) It's a delicious pumpkin cake with cream cheese filling and a dusting of powdered sugar on top. It's a traditional roll cake so has a technical component to it. It takes a bit of practice to get it just right, but the presentation of a perfect orange and white swirl is so worth it! Over the years, I've found out that the finished cake freezes beautifully. So that's something to consider if you want to make it for a smaller crowd, no need to worry about leftovers. I couldn't find the exact recipe online, but there are plenty of versions to choose from. This recipe really shows you the step-by-step rolling technique. As usual, this dessert was a real hit at this year's Thanksgiving, my aunt being particularly pleased I'd made it as it's her favourite!
FOUR // Wizards of Baking
I know the Wizarding World keeps expanding and this is one of oddest shows the franchise has come up with - but I love it! I generally enjoy watching baking shows as I find them relaxing and friendlier than other competition shows out there. I do enjoy watching a bit of competition, but baking shows revolve around talent and creativity, which keeps things fresh and interesting. The format of Harry Potter Wizards of Baking is a familiar one comprising of teams of two competing against one anther in a series of baking challenges. The themes are all wizarding world related and this is what makes it unique. No other baking shows are making elaborate sculptures of thestrals or moving mandrakes. I also really appreciate the hosts being the Phelps brothers, that's a nice touch for the OG Potter fans. Season 2, or as they call it chapter 2, drops on the Food Network and Max November 2. Something to watch with a warm cup of tea on cozy evenings!
FIVE // Magic Orchard Nap Dress
It has been a while since my last Nap Dress purchase. With the price increases and the uncertainty of the tariff wars, I've been a lot more vigilant and deliberate in my purchases. Paired with the fact I already have a decent Nap Dress collection, new or different patterns are few and far between. I thought I was doing well until this newest artist edition dropped out of nowhere. If there ever was a dress screaming my name, it's this one! Not only is the background colour a rich plum purple but the print is a fall lover's dream. It's got pumpkins, apples, owls, baskets and so much more autumnal motifs. I thought about it long and hard before purchasing, but I'm ultimately thrilled I went for it. The dress is a dream and the cotton sateen fabric is beautiful - a nice weight and finish. It arrived in time for me to wear for Thanksgiving dinner and it was the most perfect choice for the occasion. This purple pumpkin dress is right at home in this fall girlie's closet.
