This time of year is the best because it means that Reese's shapes hit the shelves once more! I've been over why this particular iteration of the peanut butter and chocolate treat is superior to the rest. While I've found the bigger individually sized options in the past, this year I seem to only see the big bag of smaller treats... It's actually a better option because the bag lasts longer and I eat less at a time, so that's a win-win. I'm already on my second bag of these babies this season and it's been the best post-dinner sweet treat!
TWO // Casper
My husband and I watched the 1995 Casper the other night and I was reminded just how much I love this movie. It's part of those 90s classics I grew up with, and maybe it's the nostalgia speaking, but they just don't make classic movies like they used to. Every fall, I tend to turn to those classic seasonal movies because they feel like a warm hug. I mean there's Hocus Pocus, The Addams Family, Practical Magic, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Halloweentown and so many more! And those are just the non-horror ones. Watching Casper just felt right. I suppose it's a bit of a tradition at this point if I watch it every year. It's such a cute movie with a great balance of humorous moments and touching ones. It's magically spooky and a great cozy movie night option! As I was writing this post, I realized this year is the 30th anniversary of the release of Casper and it's being shown in theatres once more for the occasion. Now's your chance to go see this classic on the big screen.
THREE // Ruffle Blouse
I love a good plaid shirt as much as the next basic girl. My closet is filled with an array of plaid flannels! I tend to add one or two each year but didn't this year. You're stunned, I know. I actually opted for this lightweight checked ruffle blouse. The burgundy colour was calling my name and I couldn't resist the sweet, feminine ruffle collar and balloon sleeves. The thinner cotton fabric makes it perfect option for early fall and can comfortably be layered for when sweater weather truly hits. It's a dressier option to a plaid flannel but gives off the same style vibes.
FOUR // American Royals: Reign
Being run down with a cold this past week allowed me to finally finish the fourth and final book of the American Royals series. I think this last book might have been my favourite one as the story lines were better and character development was also the best it had been all series. I was very critical of this series for its overtly obvious parallels and details of the current British royal family and I stand by that. While there were less and less copied details as the books progressed, they would annoy me and distract from the story every time they popped up. I mean the level of cliché that a halo sapphire engagement ring is the one given to the queen is off the charts. To me, this was one of the more blatant and unnecessary details that added nothing of value to the story. Besides these lazy literary details, I enjoyed the story of this final book and think it ended well. While I was able to predict one of the ending twists, I was overall pleased with the new characters and plots. I particularly enjoyed the Canadian details, even though some of those references were also very cliché. I probably won't read this series again but it was an alright choice for a light, surface-level read.
FIVE // Brown Beret
Seeing as brown is having a moment right now, and that I'd been thinking of adding a brown beret to my collection for a while, the time was right to do just that. I have a decent selection of berets and they are all from the same brand. I love the classic fit, the weight and colour options. When you find a good thing, get it is many colours. While I love the look of a beret, they also happen to be the easiest hats to store and travel with. They lay flat and can be rolled or folded without every losing their shape. They stack easily in a drawer or hat box for storage or even in the bottom of a suitcase. These ones are wool so actually provide warmth when worn. I seriously can't rave about berets enough and this brown option is right at home in the collection!
