ONE // Polka Dot Dress
I'm a sucker for a classic polka dot garment and this dress caught my eye. I love, love, love the A-line silhouette with sweetheart neckline and puffed cap sleeves. The midi length is also perfect! I got it on a whim and was so pleased with the look and fit when I tried it on that I immediately went and bought it in another colour. The smocking panel in the back makes the fit perfectly adjusted, which is like magic. I think all dresses should be made this way to give everybody a more tailored-fit without actually needing tailoring. Not only are the print and cut classic, but this dress is also stylistically very versatile. A piece that can be worn to the office, out to dinner or even for a day out on the town is a piece worth having in one's closet. I will be wearing this on repeat all season long and for many years to come.
TWO // Fresh Bread
I'm so happy I finally found my groove with my sourdough bread. It took the better part of a year to strengthen my starter and I had my fair share of imperfect loaves in the process. I've learned so much along the way! When I look back at the journey, I'm amazed. I had gotten good with baking breads of all kinds but I have to say that sourdough is in a league of its own. Learning to read your starter and your dough is something really hard to teach or explain. You just sort of figure it out along the way but it can be a humbling process. In the beginning, I used to be so anxious about my bread. I'd spend the better part of 24 hours working on a loaf only for it to turn out inedible or less-than-perfect. Sometimes, all signs pointed in the right direction and I'd get my hopes up until I cut into it and end up so discouraged. I'm happy I stuck with it because I did consider throwing in the towel more than once. Now I can confidently make a bread and know it will turn out. That in itself makes it all worth it. I even gave my mom some of my starter the other day and this was the first time I'd shared it. My mom was successful with her first loaf and that makes me so happy!
THREE //Retainer Cleaner
My husband recently got this little ultrasonic retainer cleaner and it has been such a game changer. Pretty much ever since I had braces in my teens, I've been wearing some sort of dental apparatus at night. I've had everything from a bionator to a retainer and now a night guard. I'm so thankful to my parents for investing in my overall teeth health and I strive to maintain all the hard work that went into correcting my bite. If there is one area I don't compromise on, it's my oral care. I want to keep as many of my teeth for as long as possible. We only get one set of teeth and I mean for them to last my lifetime. All that being said, wearing a dental apparatus means you have to also clean and maintain it. Back in the day, I used to wash my bionator with lemon dish soap. Then, I used to use polident to soak my retainer and night guard. However, I noticed some yellowing no matter how often I cleaned it. My husband also has a night guard and he noticed the same thing so he got this ultrasonic cleaner and it has simplified the cleaning routine. It also has a UV light that sterilizes, so even better. I can't believe I've gone so long without one!
FOUR // Middling Podcast
A few weeks ago, I mentioned that we started a rewatch of The Middle. I was reminded just how much I enjoyed watching the show the first time around when it aired on TV and am enjoying it just as much this time, as I get to binge it! Like I usually do when I enjoy a book or a show, I look to see if an accompanying podcast exists. Office Ladies is one of my all-time favourite podcasts and it set the bar for show rewatches. I love a good comfort sitcom and getting some behind-the-scenes info always adds to the experience. Luckily for me, there is a podcast: Middling with Eden and Brock. The show is hosted by the actors who played Sue and Brad on The Middle. I'm only a few episodes in and it's a fun listen. It's not on the same level of detail and organization as Office Ladies, but I'm enjoying it. I've been enjoying some of the guest interviews, but I feel like a lot of content is left out or saved for the paying tiers. I do enjoy the camaraderie between Eden and Brock and that part's fun and feels like Angela and Jenna. It's not big on the deep dives, but I'm enjoying it for an easy listen.
FIVE // Ipsy
It has been a hot minute since I got an Ipsy glam bag. I think the last one I got was at some point last summer. I've become picky and skip the month if I don't love the bag. I've already got so many bags and don't go through the products fast enough so it's not worth getting it every month anymore. That's why I love the subscription format, you can skip a month (or many) and tailor your deliveries when you want them. That being said, it was an immediate love when I saw the May glam bag design - it's a baby blue gingham with a wristlet zipper pull! I mean, this design is right up my alley! It's a classic print, in a fresh (trending) spring colour and has the added functionality with the wristlet. I'm very much looking forward to this one!
